This targeting rule is stupid,

Yes, we need to ensure cheap-shots are delivered as much as possible. More career-ending injuries!!

The CSU rusher was doing everything he could to not hit our QB and still nearly got thrown out of a game. We're not talking about cheap shots, we're talking about a silly rule that seems to be misaligned with its intent.

Bell's hit was closer to "targeting" than the sheep's hit was. Thought for sure he'd get called for it.

I was really surprised he wasn't tossed. I'm guessing they didn't want to go through the review process again. I'm glad James wasn't tossed, it would have been a point on which the lammies could have whined. Plus he didn't do anything.

Stupid rule. Both in college and the NFL they're trying to ruin the game of football.

HOW? By returning it to the days when you couldn't cheap-shot a player with your helmet? I hate seeing players using the helmet as a weapon to intimidate and injure. That's not how I was taught to play. Heads up and drive into the offensive player with your shoulder to tackle. If my coachs ever saw me go in head-down, not that I ever tried that crap, but sometimes you'd reflexively lower your head--- I got yanked!

There will be a lot of ejections where the speed of the game and not intent caused the helmet to helmet hit.

The rule hasn't changed, just the penalty and the amount of emphasis. I would be happier if we'd had increased emphasis all along (would have won that CSU game in Folsom when Scotty got targeted helmet-to-helmet and it wasn't called), but I'm not sure I like a 2+ quarter suspension.

I'm fine ejecting cheap shots - but im not sure that James should have penalized, much less ejected for that play.

Any rule that asks a ref to make a judgment call on "intent" is going to be a problem.

For example, the facemask call was a mess for years. Getting rid of the 5-yard penalty and simplifying it as "if it's worth calling, it's a 15-yard penalty" was a great rule change.

They need to figure out how to do something similar with targeting.
