Three good things from Saturday, September 26

I've realized that I need to stop letting my predisposition for finding and anaylzing problems from dominating my CU fandom. So in this thread I'm going to focus on finding positive things. Here it is, 3 good things from yesterday that I saw on the grid iron yesterday. I urge everyone else to add their own.

1. Sefo may be dinged, but he can still play and is better than any qb oregon has. And that's one hell of a nice change. Oregon doesn't have a leader and just got knocked the **** out. CU does.

2. Phillip Lindsay is ready to play and is turning into a fine lead back. Love how he plays and how he affects the team.

3. Depth in the secondary. I loved seeing jered bell and oliver get meaningful snaps yesterday, and play pretty well in those moments. That's a luxury we haven't had here in quite a while.

Off the field: the rooftop terrace is awesome, and yesterday was a perfect day for football in boulder. Saw @sliderNcider and his lady at the game. He's a good buff fan, despite himself. Good times and beer.

What you guys got?

Lots of time for backups yesterday

The walk on RB getting a chance to get in the game and score a TD

Jay Mac catching a log TD pass

Rushed for 385 yards

I saw somewhere that CU didn't have a negative yardage offensive play until the kneel downs at the end of the game. I don't care who you're playing, that's impressive execution.

My biggest thing is that the team is gaining confidence and learning how to win.

1. We won. Game was not a question 3 minutes into it. We were so much bigger than those guys.

2. Guys were able to sit and backups got reps.

3. A winning record going into conference play. Haven't looked, but that can't have happened for a while.

regained the edge after letting it lapse in the second quarter. that showed some maturity.

if the team can weather the punch from the ducks and punch back, we will be making real progress.

1. Kickoff coverage was good.

2. J.Mac might be the answer in the slot.

3. I'm liking Powell as a receiver out of the backfield.

This was a great bye week
I don't think there were any significant injuries
2nd and 3rd team got good game experience

Refreshing change to all the negativity on the same weekend we won 48 - 0. Now let's see if we can turn this thread into 4 or 5 pages of replies like some of our more, shall we say, critiquing threads.

I loved seeing two of our backs go for over 100, and that was with our best back so far this year resting.

I loved two more thefts.

I loved seeing Michael Mathews perform well on his first start and Jimmy Gilbert walk right in after his suspension and get a sack.

For all this team is not, this is a team that is starting to get better.

My biggest takeaway was their attitude at the half. They were pissed and came out in the third and cut the mistakes. This shows me they are more mature and have high expectations of themselves. They have enough talent to at least compete with most teams, and attitude will have to be exceptional to compete with what I see as merely adequate talent.

Bryce Bobo had a couple of key blocks on Donovan Lee's big TD run. Love that we are seeing that kind of down field blocking from the wide outs.
I am seea lot of effort by players off the ball working down field blocking. This year alone we have seen a bunch of huge down field blocks. Walker lll vs UMass, Lindsay vs CSU and yesterday Fields on the JayMac TD. Fields block a light um up hit and Jay probably still would have scored, but Fields ran back 5 yrs to get the block behind Jay.

1 - Defense didn't let Nichols get to the CU side of the field. Usually a mistake on D would allow a big play or three. This means that CU didn't make any major mistakes on Defense even with rotations from deep within the depth chart. Leavitt has the whole D paying attention to detail. To me this is huge!
2 - We got 4 quarters of experience deep into the depth chart.
3 - Apsay showed that, with much more work, we may have a backup QB that can keep our offense going.

.
never had an opinion about Gilbert until that pay. I am sold dude has the motor we need on D. When you have a starter go out after sitting and make a play like that on his first plsy vs a cupcake oponent after the game was in hand tells me the dude wants to play and is hungry to succeed.

The defense is playing better. They'll have they're struggles, but feeling better about their ability to make plays when they have to and get off the field on 3rd down.

Donovan Lee - Justt get him the ball

The running game overall. If Sefo can break out of his funk this offense will start racking up the yards/points.

Lots of guys got to play

Nobody got hurt

We were able to work on some things that you can't in a real game but against somebody other than our own scout team.

I like Lee with the ball, Don't see him as a regular at RB but enough that when he is in the game we can force defenses to adjust against their personnel, is he a RB or a WR. If he lines up at RB will he shift to WR or vice versa. Get him the ball in space and let him create yards.

Apsay looked like a natural QB. The mechanics don't look awkward or labored like they do with Gerke. Sefo is still the guy but at worst depth for the future looks better.

Bell, kid is a leader and a living demonstration of desire. Having him on the team makes us a better team.

I was happy to see that the camp reports of J Mac's quickness and evasiveness were accurate.

Apsay also impressed me with his ability to pass the ball.

That block on Jay MacIntyre's TD was actually Bobo as well. He's had some great blocks on TD plays this year.

1. D. Lee - I have been yelling to get this guy the ball. He has the speed and athleticism to make a minimal play into a touchdown. Hopefully we start seeing him at running back more and get at least 3-4 carries. They can also spread him all over the field for mismatches. He brings a player that the other team has to account for at all times.

2. Defense - I know a lot of us have been disappointed in our lack of sacks from our D-Line, but I actually think we've seen more pressure than we have had in a long time. Too me this is huge. We can create more turnovers if the QB is being pressured consistently. I think we've seen this so far this year and have to think we will only get better.

3. Diego G. - I really like this kicker. I had major concerns going into the season based off of what I had seen the previous season. He had missed a chip shot and came back and nailed a long field goal. You can tell missing a field goal doesn't get to him and that is great to have in a fg kicker. He almost seems more accurate in long range field goals than short ones, which is weird.

1. Devon lee and bobo, two guys who make a difference, get them the ball.

2. Lindsay, just a tough sob

3. Secondary has more depth than i can remember.

Down field blocking by receivers made a difference. Lee has speed in the second level that is exciting. Sefo has distributed the ball well and is working through his progressions! Any injury updates?
