The folks who believe Bill McCartney should be the next coach at Colorado would have been pleased with Tuesday's weekly CU football press conference. Mac was there. Well, not really. That was Brian Cabral in the head coach's chair, talking about last weekend's win over Iowa State and Saturday's upcoming game against Kansas State. But anyone who ever listened to a McCartney press conference could have shut his eyes and heard Cabral channeling McCartney.

The search committee has been named to help determine who will become the 24th full-time head football coach in University of Colorado history, school officials released Wednesday. BuffsTV will webcast Saturday's football game against Kansas State (12:10 p.m. kick). CU Athletics is also offering $12 tickets to commemorate the Buffs' final Big 12 game at Folsom Field... The game was not selected to be aired by the Big 12 television package and the two schools were able to come to an agreement with the league that allows them to carry the game on their respective premium internet platforms. Those who are not subscribers have the option to sign up for the one-time pay per view game event for $9.95.

Perplexing penalties - I've got no idea what this means, but get a load of this stat:
The Big 12 team who has drawn the most penalties this year: Kansas, with 82. The team whose opponents have been flagged for the fewest: Nebraska, with 46. Colorado's opponents have been flagged 57 times, the next fewest.
Clearly a wide-ranging conspiracy is the only explanation, right?

Kansas State at Colorado (2:10 p.m.): Two of the league's best running backs face off in this one, Colorado's Rodney Stewart and Kansas State's Daniel Thomas... ...a winnable game for the quarterback to keep the Buffaloes alive in the hunt for a bowl game.

With one regular-season game left on their schedule and an overmatched opponent coming to Folsom Field, the Buffs were looking at a recipe ready-made for fun. And, oh, did they enjoy themselves.
By the fourth quarter, with Kansas State trailing by 10 touchdowns - that's ten TDs - coach Bill McCartney inserted defensive stalwarts Alfred Williams and Kanavis McGhee as tight ends. Williams made a leaping grab for the first catch of his college career, McGhee bobbled his lone opportunity.
CU set a number of records, but the most number was '1.' The Buffs entered the game ranked No. 2 behind Notre Dame. But after Penn State shocked the Fighting Irish 24-21, CU would climb to the top spot and enter the Orange Bowl as the nation's top-ranked team for the second consecutive season.
