Top 10 program rumored to be in NCAA crosshairs

The latest of these rumors comes to us from ESPN Radio personality Colin Cowherd, who told listeners to the show that he'd been hearing a lot of scuttlebutt recently about a "top 10-12 program" who was about to get slapped with major recruiting violations. Cowherd went on to tell listeners that his source's intel was confirmed by ESPN vice president and News Director Vince Doria.

USC if I had to guess. Although the idea that Colin Cowherd has any actual knowledge of anything is beyond absurd.

Well, this indicates it is not Oregon, but a second major media outlet seems to think there is something to the rumors. Very interesting.

Despite the quote from the university to Canzano, rumors are persisting today that it *could* be Oregon. Given that the original scoop was Cowherd, it makes some sense that it could be Oregon. Before he got the national gig with ESPN, he was in Portland.

Interesting. Like I said up above, I saw rumors on various boards about Oregon and its recruiting in Texas being an issue.
 
Right now there's some nervous mother****ers in Austin. Remember there was lots of rumors of "bad ****" about to be brought into the daylight back in December and January?

I dunno, just remembering some things.

It's not here in Austin.

First, we are not currently regarded as a top 10 - 12 program.

Second, all of the bad **** already went down over the past few months as half of the coaching staff was outed for not getting the job done, and replacements have been hired etc...

Third, and most importantly, if there was any slight chance that it was here, Chip Brown would have reported it as FACT on orangebloods.com by now.
 
Boulder Buff is saying he heard it's tied to Texas recruiting.

Lache Seastrunk was tied to a street agent. He was a 5* and had a major offer list, but most programs backed off. He only tripped to Cal and Oregon, signing with the Ducks. There was talk about him transferring and Kelley granting an unconditional release. Not sure what has happened, but this could be the situation to watch.

There may be some movement on that front in the next couple weeks too. Tapes of Cam Newton's father asking for money from Auburn, Mississippi State, and Tennessee are apparently set to be released.

Take the article with a grain of salt, but I think there is some truth in there. The other name that might come up is Anthony Wallace, a 4* LB out of Dallas that signed with Oregon in the 2011 class. There is a tie between one of Chip Kelly's former players at New Hampshire and Wallace.
 
Cam Newton's father asking for money and Cam Newton's father actually getting money are two different things. If I'm Auburn, if there's a tape out there that shows the guy demanding payment, I'm like "show me a tape of him getting payment".

Although they can audit the guy's financial records and see if any large deposits were made. It would be easy enough to verify if they wanted to.

I think I remember something like that, too. And the more I think about it, the more I'm sure that there wouldn't be a check from the University of Auburn to Cam Newton's dad. It would be done through a bunch of intermediaries who would have no official connection to the school itself. You'd need to be a pretty solid forensic accountant to deconstruct where the payments came from.

Regardless of which school it is, if their busted in a big way by the NCAA, that could lead to alot of wins forfieted, maybe give up some schollys, and lost recruits.:wow:
