Top 100 Players - CBS Sports

Good for Spencer. Now, we need Scott and XJ to have big years to come out of the shadows because IMO they should be on this list next year.

Basketball season is upon us, here I am!

Give us a little preview. How are you guys looking this year? How do you look in your conference? What are your question marks coming into the season? Who do you have that will surprise?

I've always respected your program. You guys sit right in the middle of B12 country with KU and all their name and tradition right up the road along with the other B12 schools and not to far from the B1G powers as well and still manage recruit and develop a team that could consistenly compete with them.

I think you almost have to have a separate list for incoming freshman and returning players. I get all of the high rankings for Wiggins, Parker, Randle, Gordon, etc. They are all, very likely going to be high NBA draft picks taken for their enormous potential, but imagine at least 1-2 are not in the conversation for the Top 10 players of College Basketball when the year is over.

he's mad about Wiggins/Gordon, and probably Jahii.

Yep, Jahii came to mind as what he was mad about.

As rolandftw mentioned, there probably should just be another list altogether for incoming freshmen. I don't doubt Wiggins is a beast, it's just strange to have him 1st before he's played a second of college ball.

We're having a similar convo over at PGU. Quick question for you all. Do you consider Dinwiddie to be the PG for CU this year? Seems like he's slowly been taking the role over and Booker really seems more like a 2 anyway. Thoughts?

Dinwiddie has always played pg and booker the SG.

Not even close. I was actually arguing with UofA fans that were complaining about Jahii being ranked over Nick Johnson. Pretty laughable that some of them were so upset about it. I like UofA as much as the next fan but I prefer not being an all out homer. It took my fellow fans two years to finally accept how good James Harden was.

I thought Aaron Gordon is ranked too high. He played really well in our scrimmage, but much of it was off of rebounds and put back dunks (usually a follow up on his own miss). He is a freak athlete but I don't see him being a top10 player right now.

I just disagree with having freshman ranked so high before the season starts. Wiggins may be considered the best NBA prospect since LeBron, but I highly doubt he will be the #1 player in college.

Fair enough, rep to you.

This is why I like our Arizona fans.

#39 on the list Chane Behanan suspended indefinitely by Louisville for a violation of team rules. Really hurts an already thin front line for the defending champs.

I don't post at PGU, but it does seem they are easily threatened. Don't get me wrong, Arizona is a top notch program but the impression I get, is most of the fans over there see themselves as on par with Kentucky, KU, Duke, etc

Is the best program in the West though.

The conversations going on over there are ridiculous. Your point guard calls CU AZ's kryptonite, says that the Keg is the toughest place to play in the conference, and yet your board is pretty convinced that the Cats will have no trouble with the Buffs this year, anywhere. #Chens3WasGood

You have to put freshmen somewhere...

I don't think it's so bad. Would I place some differently? Of course, but this list is reasonable enough

I posted this in another thread - then saw this thread - so repost beaaaatches:

As I've said on other boards - one could take my top 85 or so rated returnees from last season in order, sprinkle in the frosh studs wherever you deem fit, and have a MUCH better top 100 than what Parrish did.

Quick glance, I see about 14 returning players rated higher in HnI than Spencer. Napier (161 HnI) and Payne (158 HnI) were higher than DinWiddie (152 HnI). Robinson III wasn't anywhere close (132 HnI).

Too many frosh ranked way too high by Parish imo.

As far as I'm concerned - McDermott, Russ Smith, and Marcus Smart should be top 3, then one can throw in Wiggins if they like.

Off subject, but if Anthony Gill is only the 38th best transfer this year then there are some ****ing scary good transfers floating around out there

OK - disagree here to some points.

First - I haven't seen one person complain about Jahii being ranked ahead of Nick Johnson on any board. Where were these complaints?

2nd - Jahii was greatly overrated last season by many. He was quite good as a frosh (not as good as Adams of UCLA mind you imo) - but in terms of the analytics, he wasn't close to being the best in the conference. CU (for example) had TWO players that were much better "all around" players than him (yes, defense does matter - as does not turning the ball over and not missing a ton of shots to get your 18 ppg). Roberto Nelson of OSU (as an example) scored more often and more efficiently, as well as turned the ball over much less (much less assists also though) - yet no one would describe him as one of the best in the nation. I'm not saying Nelson was better than Jahii btw - but they were pretty similar in statistical footprint all things considered.

Also related- my analytics did have Nick Johnson rated better last season than Jahii. Better at everything statistically except assists and shots taken - on a much better team. Was a much better defender statistically and subjectively. That being said - no prob with Jahii being projected ahead of him. NJ will be hard pressed to improve his rating with McConnell & Gordon getting so many possessions (and projecting to have very good seasons) - while Jahii SHOULD improve his rating.

Others might have underappreciated him - but I never did - Harden was one of the best players IN THE NATION when he played at ASU. As a frosh, he statistically kills Jahii and led much weaker teamates to better results. My ratings loved Harden (top 10 nationally I believe) - and so did I despite being on a team I despised. But, yes, some U of A fans refused to recognize his greatness because of ASU hatred.

Yes, Gordon is probably ranked too high. Also, like I said before - I believe McDermott, Russ Smith, and Smart need to be ranked before you rank Wiggins. Those guys are proven college elite.

Hey - thanks for reading. Actually - I think my most recent updated post had him 42nd.

But, I'll be doing a COMPLETE list btw hopefully by sometime monday - Ken Pomeroy was nice enough to get me a list (thanks to some poor ESPN intern I'm sure) of over 200 transfers that plan on playing this year. I like completeness in my rankings.

Yes - there is some definite transfer talent. I won't think Gill is the 42nd best transfer - I'm just saying my ratings see his last season played as being ranked 42nd compared to the last seasons of the others. Many of those ranked ahead of him were barely ahead of him (the difference in rating between #42 and #20 is smaller than #20 to #13, or #5 to #1). These aren't projections - well, MUCH of that depends on the team and player roles - and I don't have NEARLY enough time to delve into that.
