Top 25 and Other Hoops Games - Week 14

Villanova is #1. I'm impressed with Nova, but I can't get what Oklahoma and Virginia did to them out of my mind. Nova has not fared well in the Dance.

Duke knocked off Louisville at Cameron. Duke needed that one as they lacked good wins and their next 3 are UVA, @ UNC, @ Louisville.

Oklahoma beat Texas on a last second 3 in Norman. Shaka has Texas getting better by the week. Not a 5 seed you're going to want to encounter (Texas has 8 losses already and thus can only go so high.

Tonight WVU visits KU, MSU visits Purdue...and oh yeah, hoping for revenge tonight @hokiehead

game could get ugly

Maybe. UVA seems to be finally clicking. The last two seasons they seemingly peaked too early. With VT this year it largely depends on how a game is called. VT can hang with anyone if it descends into being called tight (and Buzz is well aware of that). I think the Hoos win fairy comfortably, but it wouldn't surprise me if VT hangs around on the edge of striking distance. With the exception of the Pitt and Duke games the Hokies have been in just about every ACC game.

So I'm watching the UA-UCLA game and, as always, something I couldn't place was driving me crazy about Thomas Welsh.

Then it hit me.

He looks like Odo from Star Trek DS9.

I feel better now that I was able to settle that.

This Arizona team is not good compared to the ones of the recent past. Decent players, but they just don't seem to be on the same page as one another.

Arizona State could do us a big favor by bringing USC back into the logjam. 58-51 ASU with 7 mins left

ASU upsets USC, so the Trojans fall to 4 losses with a visit to Tucson up next. This is good news for CU.

UCLA up 44-34 in Tucson at half

Arizona wins 81-75. UCLA now just 13-11, their backs are completely against the wall if they're to make a push for the NCAA Tournament

I was watching that Arizona - UCLA game last night and Arizona made their run when the refs started blowing their whistles. Arizona had 45 freethrows to UCLA's 16 and won the game by 6 points. You can chalk some of those freethrows up to UCLA's poor defensive discipline but that big of a freethrow disparity makes me uncomfortable as a basketball fan.

Absolute ton of bubble games to keep an eye on today. Hopefully we get the W and thus stay above the fray. Perhaps most intriguing of all will be LSU, since everyone wants Ben Simmons in the Dance. The Tigers sit 15-9 (8-3). That 8-3 mark is good enough to have them tied atop the SEC. However, LSU not only played a weak OOC, but went 7-6 against said weak OOC. Losses to Wake and NC State - a combined 3-20 in ACC play - is not a good look. There's no doubt that LSU is playing much better now, but the SEC is mediocre. There are only so many chances for good wins to build a resume if you screw up OOC. Blowing that game against Oklahoma two weeks ago was a killer. LSU faces two more decent teams in the regular season: Texas A&M today, and @ Kentucky. They probably need both. LSU's RPI sits at 78...that's not going to cut it. Lunardi has LSU as a 9 seed, there's just no ****ing way that is anywhere near accurate. Palm has them out and nowhere to be seen.

Calipari's strategy of getting kicked out has worked. Kentucky is absolutely destroying 21-3 South Carolina in Columbia, up 29 midway through the second half

Wichita State falls at home to Northern Iowa, 53-50. Have to think the Shockers get the auto-bid, but if they don't they could be an interesting case. Shockers are just 18-7 due to Van Vleet's injury in the OOC. Not like there are any opportunities for them to pick up quality wins in the MVC.

LSU about to knock off Texas A&M. Aggies are slipping big time, this is their fourth loss in a row, but this is a rare decent win the SEC offers. LSU's tournament hopes live to see another day

Is KU going to win the conference again?

For my money, that's one of the most impressive streaks in CBB history.

**** Kansas

They damn well might now. Don't know all scenarios, but it's going to be very hard for OU to win it now being a game behind and KU owning the tiebreaker. WVU may be the last hope (tied atop the standings with KU)

Hoos in control at Cameron early, 25-14. UVA hasn't won at Duke since staging the biggest second half comeback in ACC history in January 1995. They have this one circled to try and make a statement
