There is no donor culture. It's one of the alumni association's biggest goals.

Do you think that is a function of the number of out-of-state alumni that maybe don't feel the connection to the school, especially if they have no interest in the sports programs?
Maybe I should just ask what you perceive the problem to be.

I'm involved in one of the alumni chapters in Colorado and have some interaction with the main association on the Boulder campus. Working with them they've enumerated on multiple occasions it's an issue and something they're working on correcting. As to the underlying problems I don't have a good read on that. I wish I did so I could help.

Somehow the alumni association has found my wife's cell phone number. She is a Wyoming alumni. She is not pleased to be receiving fundraising calls/texts from CU.
I'm having a hard time figuring out the right balance between:
A. Finding it really funny that Mrs Skibum is getting the calls/texts instead of me,
B. Being concerned that she's getting a little pissed that she's getting them and not me, and
C. Being pleased that CU has actually done enough research and put in the effort to tie that particular phone number to my donor account, because I've never given it to them - it shows me they're starting to take alumni donations seriously.

I've gotten so many call from the kids working the call center over the years that I know their entire script.
Considering how much they paid in out of state tuition I could see how they'd feel free to ignore future giving.
Our ticket sales are pathetic compared to most of the leaders.
Making that worse is that I would expect that there is a direct connection between donations and ticket holders. Individuals who go to games, who are able to feel like they are a part of the atmosphere of the games and of the campus, are more likely to eventually turn that connection into donations.
We need to be much more aggressive at turning our graduating students into season ticket holders. I know there have been some programs but they need to get more aggressive. Have lower priced options for recent grads, make a pre-game alumni tent for young alums. Get them involved and into the culture.
Maybe do some drawings. Recent alums who have game tickets, either season or individual game, get entered into a drawing for a paid for road game the following season. Do some T-shirts, make them feel welcome
Prevent graduation from disconnecting them from athletics and the school.
Finally and biggest of all we have got to start to win much more frequently. Fans in Colorado have proven they will support a winner.
