I already love Larry Scott and we haven't even played a game in his conference. The emphasis on being able to watch every single game somehow and somewhere is amazing. It will be great for CU to get this type of exposure. The PAC-12 is about to set the bar and set it very high.
 
If that happens, there are few excuses for not getting back to being a perennial Pac-12 contender.
 
If Great Scott can pull off 220m + the potential for far more down the road coming from the media & the P12's own network, the Buffs stand to get a windfall amount compared to what the leftovers from the Big Tex league will get. Not sure if the butthuskers could make out this good? And Piss off Texass with your

No baseball till the coaches deals are at market rate (assuming we're winning), indoor practice facility, and field house renovations are done.
 
I'm thinking more and more that we are going to be blown away by the new conference revenue model. Not only are we at the right place at the right time, but we have the right leadership. This is gonna be great!

Maybe I'm just being dense, but why does 18.5 million benefit CU more than it benefits every other team in the conference?

Only downside to this plan - TBD pissing on the wall at just below waist level instead of being able to direct it down into the trough.

This is just my opinion, but I think the revenue bump helps the schools with lower overall revenues. I think for a program like U$C or Nike U the law of diminishing returns sets in. What's a few extra million for them, but it's huge for CU.

Pac-12 is also moving towards an equal-sharing revenue plan, as opposed to the hybrid sharing/appearance plan they used before (even more skewed towards the big schools than the Big 12 was).

So, there is a true "gain" from the smaller schools against the bigger schools in regards to the % increase.

Part of the issue is that CU was running a balanced budget. So if we have an extra $9 million, that's a real $9 million. That's not going to be the case at a lot of schools where an extra $9 million may just mean that they take $9 million less from the university in order to pay the bills. Texas A&M is a great example of that. Their AD loses something like $20 million a year.

Wilner knows what he's talking about, especially when it comes to the business of the Pac-12. If he's saying those are the numbers that are being discussed, that's what is being discussed.

Also keep in mind that this makes it sound like the creation of a Pac-12 network is a non-negotiable point in the negotiation for Scott. This is big. It won't make money at first, but after a few years, the money it makes will be on top of the the $18.5m/yr each school gets for 1st and 2nd tier rights (and it more than likely will not be capped during the life of the deal either).

^^^This...for all the Colorado's AD is broke talk, CU is still in the Top 25 - 30 teams in the country in net football revenue...that means we're running a tight ship because football is covering everything and we're keeping expenses low. Our profitablity to stadium size may be one of the highest in the country. This bump in money means a significant portion of that revenue can be pumped directly back into the football program for significant improvements (at least in the short run). I would think it is likely that we will see some additional facility / stadium enhancements over the next 3 - 4 years once the conference switch deficit is taken care of, and if we can get to point where basketball is running a significant profit, or even just enough to cover the women's program we'd be in great shape.

I was happy to see the part about streaming content to mobile devices and future technologies. "...conference officials have met with executives from Apple, Google and Cisco. Arrangements with the tech giants would provide the conference with the flexibility to change its distribution platforms as new technologies and consumer behavior evolve."

Remember, we will have to live with this contract for years. I love that Larry is looking to the future and putting the pieces in place so that the Pac 12 has the flexibility to switch to new modes of media as consumers embrace new technologies.

:iagree: :nod: :nod: :nod: All the ski team has done is win 18 national championships, and done so in quiet anonymity. The NCAA did a live stream of the championships from Stowe, VT, last month, and it was exciting to watch the finals, but it was also like watching a dubbed movie, as what was available on screen and the commentary by the (one and only) announcer were not always in sync. It would be great to watch the ski team compete on a FoxSports channel. :thumbsup:
