Two University of Hawaii football starters - outside linebacker Aaron Brown and wideout Darius Bright - have been suspended following their arrests this morning. Hawaii, who only returns two starters from a year ago on offense, may not have Bright and Brown for the Colorado game until an investigation is resolved. Bright, a 6-3, 230-pound junior, was supposed to be one of the big offensive threats for the Warriors this season. Bright was a junior college transfer two years ago and redshirted last year. He was listed atop the wide receiver spot in the latest depth chart in heavy passing offense. His size would be a difficult challenge for the inexperienced Colorado secondary if he were to play.
Brown was listed as the starting outside linebacker in the most recent depth chart. Last season, he finished third on the team with 83 tackles and tied for the lead in sacks with five. He also had 9.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions.
These were two important players for the Warriors.
They were accused of third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, for their alleged involvement in a fight in a Waikiki nightclub. Hawaii athletic director Jim Donovan said an arrest is considered a "major violation."
Donovan said the Warriors, who open their season against Colorado Saturday in Hawaii, will not be allowed to practice or attend meetings until their cases are reviewed.
