U of A not protecting women either

WTF?
ESPN has a new article showing the **** show in Tucson where the Arizona AD and Title IV office failed a female student athlete. It sure seems like it is getting worse around the country but it is more likely that these issues are just finally seeing the light of day. Monsters walk among us and high profile and paid coaches and administrators sweep it under the rug.

Sooner than later some US Senator or Representative is going to grab on to this issue as a way to make a name for themselves. We are going to see federal subpoenas, hearings, and a lot of dirty laundry aired in a very public forum.

Schools aren't going to be able to hide behind being private and their political influence in their home states won't help them. The politicians will use it as a way to make the world believe that college athletes are running wild (a few places they are.)

The end result is going to be legislation that gives the federal government a much more active role in supervision of college sports. The NCAA members are going to wish that they had taken care of business when they still had control of the situation. The feds are going to come in with investigative authority and resources. There won't be any more bogus sanctions like the NCAA currently hands down reducing scholarships and skipping bowl game. They are going to range from being ineligible to receive federal dollars including research grants, need based grants, and guaranteed student loans. Beyond that they may simply require the termination of certain individuals and may even range into criminal prosecution.

The reporting burdens on even the cleanest of programs are going to be a significant burden that won't go away.

It is way beyond the scope of my imagination to believe there are clean programs. There are plenty of women that perpetrate or justify the abuse of women in college athletics, the Rutgers AD and women's basketball coach at Baylor come to mind.

I don't know that any program is perfectly clean when it comes to recruiting, I'm certain that a lot push the line or go way over academically.

Treating women with respect is a different issue. There are to many people out there with a level of decency that won't allow them to go that far. Unfortunately when you constantly hear about programs like Baylor or Rutgers, or Miami, or Nebraska, or a number of others it is easy to forget the decent ones.

The bad one though are so bad that everyone is going to get painted with that brush when it comes down.

Good luck finding fans of other schools that don't include CU in that group.
