"Last night, early in our Cal game, Brandon Ashley suffered a foot injury that will end his season," Arizona coach Sean Miller said in a statement. "While we're all disappointed, we are also aware that Brandon needs our support and positive energy surrounding him. ... This adversity will ultimately make Brandon and our team stronger moving forward."

Awful, awful news for this kid and Zona's chances to win a national championship this season.

Even though I consider UA a budding rivalry, that's put to the side when there's an injury. I want to beat their asses without an asterisk and I never want to see a kid go through an injury. Hope he comes back strong next season. One of the guys in the conference I enjoy watching play.

Tough injury for them. Will probably be forced to play Gordon at PF, and Hollis-Jefferson at SF. Definitely hurts their bench, which wasn't deep to begin with. Was hoping it wasn't too serious and he could get back in March or so, but sounds like that wasn't the case.

Will say that I don't know how a win over them would have an asterisk, considering CU's injuries. Likely both fan bases will have at least a contingent that will always wonder what could have been, even if the drop off might not be as severe in Zona's case

Never like injury. Don't see it harming Arizona's commanding lead to win the regular season title, but likely will have repercussions in March.

UGH. Was really hoping for Arizona to win it all so the Pac would get a little more notoriety. Huge blow to the team - and conference.

Never like to hear about any of these players suffering injuries.

That said, there is no asterisk when we beat 'em. We will still be missing 2 players for that game.

Agreed here, you want to beat teams at full strength. I just don't see an asterisk being added here in any case. Losing Ashley sucks for them but it's as bad as our losses. Besides, injuries are part of sports.

I'm not so much a conference guy like many SEC football fans are, but nonetheless if CU isn't going to win, another Pac-12 team winning would be great, it's been a while.

Part of it is because I enjoy the Arizona fans I deal with, but part of it is selfish. The P12 is ignored nationally for the most part. This hurts CU. I want the P12 to get a brighter spotlight because we're going to be damn good next year and I know that a good chunk of that spotlight will fall on us.

Yeah good point, the Pac-12 will always have to do a little (or a lot) more to compete with the ACC, Big East, and other conferences east of the Rockies for national attention.

The UofA fans I know are beside themselves over Ashley's injury. I think they're still a legitimate Top-10 team with a shot to win it all, but those chances are obviously diminished without Ashley. I agree with prior sentiments that having a marquee team is good for the conference and good for the Buffs.

Like Cville has said, it probably won't hurt them as much in the regular season as Tourney.
