UCLA Matchup this week.

It is interesting that this is only the second zone read team we have seen this year. CU's defense has not done well against he zone read teams in the past...and UCLA has one of the best trigger men in the country. The equalizer is that in spite of a ton of talent and experience the Bruins Oline has not played well this year. Expect to see a lot of screens from the Bruins. The Bruins like to run the ball a lot although their YPC are only slightly better than USC. Turnovers almost lost the game for them at CAL.

The UCLA defense is average against the run and average against the pass but do not sack the QB very much. If you look at stats the two teams look pretty evenly matched. Every week football watchers are waiting to see if UCLA will finally match their talent level... They have flashes of brilliance.

If CU can bottle up Hundley then we have a chance.

we definitely match up better with UCLA than USC. Probably doesn't mean we will win but a more favorable match up.

Hundley is not as good as advertised...holds on to the ball too long. Their O line sucks balls. Their D is okay.

I think we match up well with UCLA. If Hundley doesn't run all over us on QB keeps, and the team actually decides to play 4 quarters in all 3 phases, we have a legit chance to win this. I'm hoping we win, shake off the USC game, and move forward strong into the rest of our schedule. Hope springs eternal...reality, on the other hand...

I think Hundley is still pretty good. His completion percentage and QB rating are both among the best in the nation. But UCLA has not met expectations this year. Many thought they would be one of the Playoff teams.

CU has to get some stops on defense.

UCLA's special teams concern me. Ismael Adams is dynamic and we have, ahem, been a little suspect at times in coverage over the past few years. A cheap TD return would really put us behind the 8-ball.

I can see some ways we match up well with them:

-their WRs are kinda average, our DBs may be able to stick with them pretty well and with minimal assistance
-thus freeing up an ability to blitz their crappy OL and Hundley who has a propensity to hang onto the ball too long

Unfortunately, we'll find ways to CU it up and:

-We'll miss the sacks, Hundley will scramble and gain a million yards
-Neinas will rear his ugly head and Ishmael Adams will have a million return yards

Plus, they like to run the ball and we like to let teams run the ball. Perkins for 150+ to go along with Hundley's 100+. I also forsee many a RB and TE catching short passes and running wild while our super fast LB corps chases roughly 3-5 yards behind in a valiant effort to shoestring tackle them.

Coaches and players show up like last week, we got problems. D line needs to step up their effort and make some big plays. Sefo over the course of the season is playing well and progressing, gonna be an upper tier QB in Pac next year, but please Sefo and team, no turnover on our first possession. Script and score. Get to the next wrung on the ladder.

Leads me to coaches. If you have some things you are waiting to roll out, its homecoming, let the good times roll. Like maybe not run it up the gut 3 x straight inside the 10. And with Hundley, he is going to get his in this game, so let it fly and pressure him, or utilize formations/scheme on D that might mix it up. Bruins are going to score on us, so lets open it up on D. We need a couple of turnovers to have a shot.

Offensively I think we can do good things against the Bruins. Lets stick more with the hot hand at running back. TJ has been running tough, lets let the senior press the effort a bit. Our WR's can play with these guys, although I know Bobo is beat up. Per the Bruins, they are going to be able to run the ball, we have shown little ability to stop a decent run offense.

On paper we have a significant deficit against ucla in terms of matchups, especially with our defense, but with it being homecoming and coming off getting slobberknockered in the first half last week, believe we come out pissed and make up some of the gap. Strangely, I think we are going to win this game. Not sure why after last week.

I think we are going to beat UCLA. It's been building up to this. Close but not enough for victory in the Cal, Oregon State and even Arizona state games will finally boil over this week in a great performance and our first big pac 12 win (other than WSU and Utah). Team will be focused. They are hungry for a win and this is going to be it!

I don't even try to guess anymore. Will just enjoy watching the Buffs play and if they win, dance the joyous dance of Burrito on opposing fans legs.

I'm gonna agree. This game sets up very well for us to stun UCLA (and the rest of the league for that matter). This is a UCLA team who has dramatically underachieved in all but one (ASU) game. They had to outscore Memphis, and they got a coin toss screw-up from UT and that still was a fourth quarter game. You've got dysfunction in their coaching staff (See the conversation Mora and Jeff Ulbrich had during the Oregon game). We played well in our first three conference games (with the exception of the first quarter against ASU), and I expect a hungry bunch of Buffaloes Saturday. Not only that, but go back to last year for a second-This team went punch for punch for a while with a better UCLA team than the one we'll see Saturday-at the Rose Bowl.

First,
CU O-Line is dirty. According to DL Takkarist McKinley

Second,
Nelson Spruce, is not that good. IF you take away his best game.

Third,
UCLA to play without oxygen masks
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/bruins-639275-mora-buffaloes.html
Folsom Field sits more than a mile above sea level. The Bruins will not prepare for the added altitude. “It’s not something we even address with our players,” Mora said. “It doesn’t matter. It’s irrelevant. We can’t change it. We’re not gonna wear oxygen masks.”

I want to beat these ****ers so bad.

i believe not discussing the altitude actually makes the altitude go away. If you sneak up on it, you will be fine.

In all seriousness, not discussing the altitude and informing your players of the effects could potentially be dangerous health wise.

Choosing to not make the altitude thing a big deal in the press and not talking to your team about what to expect are two different things. The effects of altitude are real but they are definitely not as huge of a deal as what people wish they would be. For most athletes in football the effects should not be that great.

I am excited for this game. I believe we have as good of a chance with these guys as we did with Cal or OSU. Hopefully the outcome is better.

The vertigo and elevated heart rate that lead to dizziness and the hydration issues are prevalent, regardless of how conditioned you are. He said "Its not something we even address with our players"

I understand that a lot of the effects of altitude are mental and that you can easily psyche yourself out, but if they aren't even addressing it with the players that could lead to interesting results.

Last 2 games he has run 39 times. He ran 17 times against CAL for 94 yards - I think it is safe to say the zone read is back in their offense.

I just watched the Oregon game and Hundley has NOTHING bothering him. They ran the ball all over Oregon and couldn't put it in the end zone. They were well ahead of Oregon at halftime (in yardage, possession, etc) but trailed big time on the scoreboard.

Hundley not only seems healthy, but more willing to run than he did earlier. Part of that seems to me that he thought of himself as an NFL guy earlier in the year and tried to not run. Now he's running a bunch.

They probably have more NFL players on the field than just about any team in the country in my opinion. But they also aren't a great team.

We also run A LOT of plays on offense, their defense is going to be gassed and it's happened every home game this year from Hawaii to ASU to OSU.

Not even addressing it with players is a bad move IMO. Especially because of the easily addressable hydration issues that also come with playing at altitude. "It's just as important that you drink extra water in Boulder as it is in Tempe - I know it's not going to be hot and will probably be cooler than we're used to, but you dehydrate nearly as fast at altitude as you do in heat, so drink the extra water." To leave something so easily addressed unaddressed isn't the sign of a coaching staff that pays attention to the details.

Shhhhh

The running game has been improving. To me, I can see it going either way against UCLA. We absolutely need to go fast against the Bruins.
