UO vs CU first quarter

Can we stop with the CU put up a great first quarter talk? While it's true we held up well until the last 5 minutes or so they scored 3 TDs in those last five minutes and it ended 29-10. The D did perform well for the first 8 minutes or so, but if not for a double reverse pass CU wouldn't have led 10-8. The offense was stalling.

It seems as this is going to be the new "CU was going to win at Texas talk when they led at half." I was there. It was a halk team on the road against a team that eventually played in the MNC game.

I am glad the team showed up to fight and I liked the aggressive play calling such as the onside kick and the aforementioned pass. We held up much better than the last time UO came to town, but let's stop treating it like we won the first quarter. Improvement? Absolutely. But it's an improvement hardly worth mentioning in light if the ASU game.

Why does this bother you? It is what it is. Fact is CU is the only team this year to hold two seperate leads on Oregon. Sorry, trick plays count. You think no other teams use trick plays each and every week in college football? The Buffs came to play during the Oregon game and played with some passion. That is all that we as fans can ask for from these young guys who are trying to win games and get better.

Rewatched last night, the game was over by the end of the first...totally agree. the ducks had laid 29 pts. on CU, if that's "being in the game", let's just stop while we're behind.

Like JR said it was worth noting. That's fine. But it seems as if we are rewriting history. We had two separate leads. Again, that's great actually. We came out and tried to hit them in the mouth with our best. We did that for 8 minutes.

8 minutes of a 15 minute quarter of a 60 minute game.

That's something to build on because the other time they came to town they scored within 90 seconds and never looked back.

But we can't look at games like these where we never stood a chance. Had we upset Oregon it would have been a bigger upset than the time we beat OU.

It just makes it look pathetic that we are trying to find straws to grasp to where none exists. If the team can give Arizona a hell of a game and keep it close that would be better metric to show that the team is improving.

I hadn't noticed all the threads about how amazing our first qtr performance was, but I will take a second look.

Well in the 2ndQ we settled for a FG, got a stop, and settled for another FG to make it 29-16. At that point both teams had scored four times. Just sayin'.

Cu could of easily had 28 pts at the half. They were never going to win that game but still just sayin.....'

I don't recall anyone claiming those first 8minutes were us turning the corner. I do think it is extremely accurate in saying that it was an important building block. Showed the players that when they execute they can succeed. Unfortunately for us Oregon also started executing at about 8min in.

Its not like we are coming off a decade of great football....why does it matter that fans are excited because we played the #2 team in the nation relatively well for the first half of the 1st quarter? Its not like we have anything else great to think about from this program in the last few years.

I would much rather think about some positives once in a while than all the negatives this program has going on.....you need those positives to help slowly change a culture. When we start going to bowl games in 2 or 3 years this moment will be a distant blip of our memory, but why try to take a big dump on it now when it is quite honestly the best we have when it comes to football.

Who is still talking about the 1st quarter of the Oregon game? other than you (NMBuff)? And the poster above that talked about the 2 fg's we settled for is right, had we sored there it was a 1 point game into the 2 quarter. Again, never going to win that game but have you seen what Oregon has done to everyone else? ASU for that matter too? We were beaten badly but when you look at what ASU did to a good Washington team last week i have to think that we aren't that far off from competing like we should be. A ton of work to be done but we are turning the corner.

Relax fellow Buff fan finding some positives in a bad situation isn't a bad thing.

Any goodwill earned during the first 13 minutes of the Oregon blow out was relinquished in Corvallis and Tempe.

Wake me when CU plays for four full quarters against a Pac opponent.

Of course we don't find any glory in the first Quarter, and your post is too long to explain it. Did we win a National Championship or did Oregon? They have not won ___! Maybe they will soon...but bama is in the way.

Don't matter, I think Florida St. can beat anybody. Yes Oregon and Alabama. CU hung in as long as they could, we'll get there, takes time.

I get your point NM, but I think your perception is skewing reality a bit. I don't think anyone here thought at any point during the Oregon game that we were going to win. However, I was impressed with how we played Oregon. Short of converting on third down, we played as well as we could for most of the first half. Is this something to brag about? No. But, it was a noticeable improvement from the team and staff. It also quite clearly illustrates how far we have to go talent wise.

I only took one thing from the Oregon game, and that was the team believed they belonged on the same field with the Ducks. That was something I hadn't seen in our first two years in the Pac. In both 2011 and 2012, the game was over after one possession. There was effort, no try, nothing at that point. If there was any belief at all going into those games, it was wiped out within the first 2-3 minutes of the game.

This time, the Buffs kept going. They believed. Unfortunately, believing only goes so far sometimes. But to me, when the program was at the level it was at 11 months ago, what I saw from the Oregon game said a lot about the direction of the team.

I only talk of great wins, never a great loss. A great loss is for losers. I agree.
