US 36 has been renamed Buffalo Highway! (Herd still under debate)

Among the sponsors is Rep. Kevin Priola, R-Henderson, who is co-director of the Ralphie program, which runs a buffalo down the field at home games. He was one of the runners when he attended CU in the 1990s.



 
Would be a pretty cool gesture for the fans.

I think it is a great idea. What is up with the comments in the post. They act like they are going to steal food from Children to rename the highway.

Recruits do care about fan support, though. It certainly wouldn't hurt when a recruit came in to visit on a Saturday morning flight on a gameday and then drove into Boulder on the Buffalo Highway lined with CU flags.

Yeah, I am just saying this should be much more about throwing a bone to CU and its alumni/fans than worrying about how it will impact recruiting. If anything, just acknowledgement from the state legislature that CU actually still exists in their minds would be a nice change of pace.:smile2:
 
not sure what having a live mascot has to do with highway renaming? if w just had Chip, would that make the diff?

seems a little silly to me, overall. not something better our elected officials and lawmakers could be doing?

shoulder to shoulder but c'mon?

:lol: my thoughts exactly. I'm all for it but silly thing for politicians to worry about. And yes apparently having Ralphie has a lot to do with the naming of US36 :lol:. The lambs have a mascot too.... how bout we give sh14 from Ault to Fort Collins as the lamb express :thumbsup:
 
I disagree with it being silly. Towns compete for tourist revenue and sales tax dollars from visitors. There's also a benefit from residents feeling a closer affinity to their community. Calling US 36 the "Buffalo Highway" and having a live herd brands the towns along this corridor in a way that helps accomplish that. Using a number for the road does not.
 
Based on the current issues with the renaming of the Meth Cop Detention Center in Arapahoe county, I think lawmakers can only responsibly name 36 "Buffalo Highway". If they name it after a politician, they will probably be televised getting a DUI right under the sign within 10 years.


I would also gladly accept the, "**** 'em Up! **** em Up! Go CU! Freeway"
 
I think it should only be the Buffalo Highway from Church Ranch to Boulder. Anything east of that exit sucks.

Well to really get the "Denver market' the Buffalo herd should be put around 36 and Federalish :nod:

A Senate committee on Wednesday gave its unanimous approval to a resolution to rename the Boulder Turnpike the Buffalo Highway.

That stretch of road leads from Denver to Boulder, home of the University of Colorado. Its mascot, a buffalo, was selected in 1934.

“I think it's a nice reminder of the University of Colorado, which has the best mascot in the whole country,” said Sen. Rollie Heath, D-Boulder. “Why not take advantage of it?”

The Legislature has previously renamed stretches of other roads. A portion of Interstate 70 through Denver is called the Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Highway.

The resolution, which already passed the House, allows the Colorado Department of Transportation to accept gifts, grants, and donations for the initial “Buffalo Highway” signs.

If we were to donate money for a Buffalo Highway sign, would they put "AllBuffs" somewhere on the sign... similar to the Adopt a Highway sign program

It is a good move. Gives the drive more of an authentic look. Good for attracting tourist or visitors .
