USC and recruits

I read yesterday about USC and that they are trying to sign around 26 players this time, even with their "limit" of 15. Apparently they are appealing the NCAA sanctions and in the meantime they are going to sign all those kids anyway. Even before the NCAA rules.
If I was a USC recruit I would be very nervous about commiting to them without a backup plan. It may come that USC can't honor their commitment and I wouldn't put it past Kiffin to renege on some commits if he has to. Do you guys agree?

Buffnik talked about this extensively a couple days ago and wrote up a nice break down:

Rivals has an in-depth article. Doesn't appear to be premium.

Sanctions haven't slowed USC Recruiting

Basically, Kiffen and Ogeron don't believe anything bad is going to happen to them, and they've convinced the recruits of the same.
One week before National Signing Day, USC boasts the nation's fifth-ranked recruiting class. The Trojans have commitments from 25 prospects and remain in the mix for several other top-level recruits.

aren't they back datign 8-10 of those commits to before the sanctions?

Yes. I think 7 of them enrolled early to count against last years number. I still can't believe they are going to take 20 or more and hope they get the number reduced from a loss of 10 to a loss of 5. Pretty risky move.

The strategy is actually pretty smart on USC's part, they are loading up on elite recruits while they can, as they will have a harder time doing so in 1-3 years. The fact they are appealing the scholarship reduction allows them to postpone it. They must be taking some gambles on academic risks with their oversigning, but hey: that staff+lack of oversigning rules=field day. I would be doing the same thing in their situation, that said I hope they lose every game.

They have 9 signed and starting classes count against the 2010 class. They have lost two this year to transfer (Blake Ayles (TE) and a WR). I think the limit for 2011 is 17 the 15 starts the next three years.
