USC Game

well we just received our tickets to the USC game and just booked our flight. Anyone else going?
Any pregame activities worth mentioning? And what area should we stay away from? I know it is in a bad neighborhood.
Planning on hitting the Buff Bash at the museum

There is a healthy pregame partying scene around the Coliseum. How healthy depends upon the game start time. The U$C fans are generally friendly, so there is no problem with wearing the Buffs colors. The area right around the Coliseum/campus is nice, and the surrounding neighborhoods are improving. My advice is to arrive early because parking can be difficult and expensive.

Speaking of parking, because of renovations they have eliminated 1,000 parking spaces, so you may have to find another way of getting there.

We have gone the last few years and typically park at LA Live and ride the train over. We have tailgated and gone to the alumni tailgate, which was held in a building last time, but was pretty fun. It’s decent food and slightly overpriced drinks but fun to hang with all CU fans, hear the band, sing the fight song, etc.

This is the second game (outside of Folsom) I'd like to see his year, after UW because of proximity. Actually prefer this one for the likelihood of a victory. My fUCLA uncle shook only his head when I said I wanted to see a game at SC. We shall see.

Hey Leash - intel I have is to book something you can afford in downtown LA. Then Uber to and from trom the colosseum. The Omni LA at California Plaza was recommended - or some place you have points.

I haven't lived in LA for almost 20 years, but while I was there, downtown LA was not a place you wanted to be in the evenings. If I were making that trip, I'd stay in either Santa Monica or the South Bay (Manhattan or Hermosa Beach) and Uber in for the game.

The Staples Center *might* have changed downtown a bit, but either way, these options are worth considering.

I hope that helps.

Downtown LA is possibly the most uninteresting major city I’ve ever seen. Complete lack of character.

Downtown has predictable brand name hotels closest to campus & the stadium. It wont cost an arm and a leg or keep you hanging in traffic or wondering about the safety of the neighborhood. That’s the long and short of this suggestion.

Getting an AirBnB near Malibu and renting a convertible would be the living large option.

Only decent area in downtown is the Staples area and the only hotel is the JW Marriott and the Marriott Courtyard ($$$). You can Uber from there to game area as the parking is a not cheap. Once you are near the coliseum the crowd is not bad. Trying to stay in Santa Monica or Pasadena is challenging game day but a much better area.

Here’s a goofy idea:

Stay out by Universal Hollywood and take the subway into downtown, then uber from there. Citywalk is pretty cool.

I remember taking the greyhound to San Diego and we had a transfer in LA. We got to the terminal and it was a beautiful building right downtown we were stoked. As we got off our driver stopped us. He said “this is LA Amtrak...you boys are headed to LA greyhound”. It was as awesome as it sounds.
