Should have just built a new one with the money that school has.

Yeah, wait until the new NFL stadium is ready, then see what happens with LA´s 2014 Olympics bid and go from there. Just knock the place down and play at the new NFL stadium for a year or two.

I like it, but I agree with wspy. That doesn't really look like a $270MM project. More like half that. i wonder if there's more to the project than what we're seeing. We built an entire indoor practice facility, new locker rooms offices, etc for half that.

I think LA is a little behind the ball for their 2014 Olympics bid.

Really, I don't care much because the facilities arms race doesn't really apply to USC. They're like Miami. They'll get elite talent regardless. So I just look at it as my personal fan experience if I decide to go on a roadie to see the Buffs play there. It's going to be a much nicer place to visit once this is done.

Agree with all but the last sentence. I just don't think this addresses the fan experience much at all, unless you're sitting with Jack Nicholson. Hand rails and improved aisles won't do much for feeling like you are 2 miles from the field.

I am assuming a lot of it is for the structure itself considering how old it is.

Way to screw up the symmetry and classic architectural style of the coliseum.

Looks about as stupid as the fin on the back of the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona.

About the only upside is a greater chance that Henry Winkler will be sitting out of site.

Two new score boards (video), handrails, ADA compliance, replace all the bleacher seats with seat back chairs, press box and probably some vip boxes. Since it was built in the 1920s there is probably a crap load of plumbing, structural, and other issues that need to be fixed too.

there is more than meets the eye with respect to the cost. the current stadium is a dump. it has been mildly upgraded here and there, but it remains a **** hole. this is actually why the raiders left LA-- they did a study of what needed to be done to modernize and it wasn't done. and think about how long ago that was.

it needs earthquake works, bath rooms and infrastructure, other safety ****, and a ton of other things. and, i haven't read the upgrade plans but the basic layout now is totally ****ed. the stadium is "flat" so the views are very challenged, mostly. and, the distance between the stands and the field is huge. it is a ****ing hell-hole.

it is cool when they have 90,000+ engaged fans in there, but that is not the rule-- it is the exception. i am somewhat surprised it is costing less than 300mm.

the neighborhood sucks so hard that usc is buying up blocks of housing around the campus just to create safe zones.

they don't want to move because, unlike fucla, who plays off-campus all the way over in pasadena, in a totally inconvenient location away from the school, the coli is right next to usc itself. the upgrades are long overdue.

i hope they **** it up in the worst possible ways.

Here is the existing bowl

So the pressbox work will be extensive. They are basically reworking the entire bowl, with seat backs and new aisles/wider treads. 2 new video boards. New sound system. As mentioned there will likely be some heavy earthquake work done too. On the website it sounds like they are also upgrading concessions/amenities all over the stadium too.

I agree with others though, for probably another 50-100mil, they could have built a new one.

The workers need hazard pay to work in the ghetto!
