VMI Keydets

Anyone know anything about the VMI Keydets? They are the top scoring team in the nation for the past couple years, have 4 guys averaging double digits, with a 5th averaging 9.9 pts a game. But they are in a very weak conference, and they dont really have that great of a record. Do they just not play defense? I would think with that kind of scoring power they should be able to win a little more than that. But then again I have never seen them play a single game.

It's all about pace with them. This is why I like the advanced stats like points per possession. Much more important than points per game. "PPP" tells you how good a team is on offense. "PPG" just tells you style of play.

VMI is a middle of the pack team in the Big South conference.

I know I've had a lot of fun with them due to the Kwality of their education.

I agree with nik, their quality of posessions is probably pretty crappy, as they play in a crappy conference, and they arent doing that well. But with the number of posessions they get, it has to be some pretty entertaining fast pace basketball. I was just curious if anyone has seen them play.

Seen them in past years but not this year. Sound like Loyola Marymount but they were actually beating people. Hell, they took down the defending national champ in the tourney that year.

Yep and ran into UNLV I think who nobody was gonna beat. Hank Gathers, that was sad. That was the year Final Four was in Denver right?

They're just down the road in Lexington from my hometown. Small school with only a little more than 1,000 cadets, but they have a lot of pride in their institution. They play a fun style, but that scoring goes away the second they play quality competition. It's been a few years now, but they had a kid who was the leading scorer in the nation at almost 30 ppg, then he transferred to Mizzou and didn't do much

That team beat Alabama when they had Latrell Sprewell and Robert Horry. They also beat LSU with Shaq earlier in the year I think.

I remember them running Michigan out of the gym in the 2nd round. Always wondered what would have happened against UNLV if Hank Gathers had been around.

what happened to Gather was very sad, but for how absolutely horrible the Nuggets were with Westhead (44-120)....I've giving no love to LMU in this thread.
