It’s no certainty Bieniemy will get fired. He’s the only assistant on campus with a multi-year contract and he is one of Embree’s best friends. He could get reassigned. But the offense has failed to achieve any identity, let alone production, and Tedford helped produce dynamic quarterbacks at Oregon and Cal before hitting a major slump these last three years.

Question is why Tedford, a guy with 10 years of HC experience, would come to work under one of the most underqualified HCs in CFB history.

Sure, let's take him as OC, Les Miles as our DC, Frank Beamer as our ST coach, and Pete Carroll as our recruiting coordinator. Then maybe we'll see some improvement

As a Cal fan, this makes no sense. Don't see why JT would take it. He would be more successful, more accomplished, more experienced, better regarded, and a better coach than his boss.

Yep, although being the OC would give him the inside track on the HC job when Embree is canned.

Who are you looking at to replace Tedford?

All I keep hearing is that if it happens, it is likely to happen very quickly. Which tells me two things; feelers have come back very positive (which i know to be true), and that there is still that IF qualifier. JT has some extremely influential friends.

Don't be so cautious in you posts. Be reckless here. He's gone and you know it. Cough * Sonny Dykes* cough and probably down to one or two others.

Some fun reading here about your new OC Buffs:

Cal took our sloppy seconds with Ambrose and Kiesau

Just Ambrose really.

"Kiesau was previously Cal's wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator for four seasons (2002-05), before spending five campaigns (2006-10) on the Colorado coaching staff."

So we got first and sloppy thirds with him.

I wish I were certain! This is Cal, and remember Pappy's Law states "everything that can go wrong, will go wrong". I won't be satisfied till Dykpeterroman Jackson signs a contract.

Who the **** is Pappy? And why do I give a **** what he thinks?

Kies did well as a position coach imo. He got tossed to the lions when he became our OC. He was clearly in over his head.

Kiesau is now the OC at Washington and making good bucks (in his wife's hometown too). Their offense seems a little worse this year than last (their old OC Nussmeier took the OC job at 'Bama). It was very strange that EK returned to Cal under CJT since he had taken some veiled shots at Tedford in the Colorado newspapers - saying he had more time to spend with his family under hawkins. Other departing coaches have said similar things about CJT, but then again it's also obvious that Hawkins had no clue on how to run things, so perhaps 'family time' meant the entire hawk staff just wasn't doing enough to get things done.

Not sure that the OC postion under Embree would be a great move for Tedford, if he succeeds, he won't get teh HC job, because embree stays, and if he does poorly, embree gets canned, but would CJT get elevated to HC? mideseason? And then succeed? It really depends in A) if he is actually fired and B) if he wants to get back into it right away and if there are better OC or HC offers. It's not a great career move if Embree is on the hot seat and the gig only lasts one year.

Now if you want Tedford as a HC after a nice year rest, he might do much better. He puts in 15-20 hour days and looks very tired. Hard to keep that up over 10+ years. But he'll recruit to CU well, and can tell CU recruits that from first hand knowledge CU has hotter chicks and easier classes than Cal.... just like Tosh Lupoi is doing at UW (though instead of stealing Cal recruits, Tosh has driven most to UCLA from Cal).

Tedford would be a huge improvement over what we currently have HC-wise. I would be okay with that.

I know Im getting ahead of myself, but It would be interesting to see a heated rivalry with Cal with Tedford at the helm in Boulder.

Why might Tedford consider this?

Here's my theory:

1. CU knows it will be firing Embree after 2013 unless there's an amazing turnaround (unlikely with a frosh QB starting - Dillon).
2. Tedford would take a sabbatical year if he didn't do something like this. Money's not the issue because Cal has to pay him full.
3. If Tedford wanted the CU job in 2014, this allows him to get a jumpstart on things: a) Coaching Dillon instead of risking someone else screwing him up; b) saving CU recruiting to avoid too deep of a hole; c) getting some of his guys in place on the staff; d) working on fixing some things with the CU administration; and, d) having a chance to thoroughly evaluate the players and coaches at CU.

If you recall, this was the deal that Dirk Koetter wanted to come in for 2010 and be our OC but CU didn't want to commit to him as the HC after Hawkins. That's probably different with Tedford.

Agreed. But I don't want Tedford, I want Derek Mason. My wishes, and $5, will get you a value meal.

Not as much anymore. Value meals are getting more expensive.

I'm also not accepting that Embree will be back until they officially say he is.

Team meeting is not at 5 p.m. It was cancelled. Just a team dinner now. These twitter columnists are way behind the curve on info. Give it a little longer
