Seniors Courtney Dunn and Bianca Smith
Buffaloes Host Kansas State On Senior Night
THE GAME: The University of Colorado will close out the 2009-10 home schedule by hosting Kansas State University on Wednesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. at the Coors Events/Conference Center.
BROADCAST: Wednesday's game will be broadcast live on KKZN AM 760. Mike Rice will give the play by play with USA Basketball's Carol Callan with the color commentary. Live internet video streaming of Wednesday's game is available on BuffsTV, a subscription service through CUBuffs.com. Live internet audio of all CU basketball games is available on BuffsRadio, also a subscription service through CUBuffs.com. Please note the BuffsRadio audio and BuffsTV video are separate subscriptions.
OPENING TIP: Colorado will honor its two seniors Wednesday night, celebrating the careers of guard Bianca Smith and center Courtney Dunn. Smith, a native of Missouri City, Texas, is CU's all-time leader in 3-pointers made and attempted. Dunn, a product of Berkeley, Calif., is having her finest season at Colorado averaging 6.2 and 4.5 rebounds per game. Both are scheduled to graduate with their respective degree's in May.
THE BUFFALOES: Colorado is 13-14 overall and in 11th place in the Big 12 Conference at 3-11. The Buffaloes snapped an eight-game losing streak with a thrilling, come from behind 80-79 overtime win over Missouri on Feb. 23, but have lost nine of their last 10 and 11 of 13 overall. Colorado is one game behind Wednesday's opponent and a win over the Wildcats would give the Buffaloes the inside track to the No. 10 seed to the upcoming Big 12 Championship in Kansas City. Colorado could still mathematically finish as high as eighth in the final Big 12 standings, but tiebreakers have cemented the Buffaloes into either the No. 10 or 11 seed for the upcoming tournament. Colorado defeated Kansas State in Manhattan earlier this season so a win on Wednesday would give CU the tiebreaker over the Wildcats. Kansas State finishes the regular season by hosting No. 3 Nebraska on Saturday while the Buffaloes travel to No. 13 Iowa State.
Colorado's opponent, regardless of seed will likely have a southern flavor. The frontrunners for the No. 6 or 7 seed come from the grouping of Baylor, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Texas all of who are currently in a four-way tie for fourth place in the Big 12 standings at 8-6.
SERIES RECORDS: This will be the 66th meeting between Colorado and Kansas State with the Buffaloes holding a slight 33-32 edge. Colorado won the earlier meeting in Manhattan, 63-57, but the Wildcats have won 12 of the last 16 meetings. A win by Colorado Wednesday would mark the seventh time in the last eight years that the regular season series has ended in a sweep between the two teams, the lone exception coming in 2008 when both teams won at home. Colorado holds a 16-11 lead in Boulder and has won two of the last three meetings.
Kathy McConnell-Miller is 4-6 against Kansas State as a head coach, all with Colorado.

A win tonight is essential for keeping the Buffs slim WNIT hopes alive. Let's hope the team can rally late in the year and make it happen.
