If i told you before this game Ski would be 5-7 from three and and 7of 11 from the field and Scott would go for 19/9 on 7 of 12 shooting you'd have been pretty confident right?

These guys are gonna have to learn to play together without Mayor. Not the best timing in conference play but they'll get a little more comfortable each game.

We could be better without Spencer.

See post Burks and post Dre.

Team loses main scoring threat. Team becomes more balanced.

Team loses main rebounding threat. Team becomes more disciplined at boxing out. Typically.

Team loses court general. Team becomes more assignment based and more disciplined in individual execution?

Apples to orange.

As you will notice, if you pay attention, there is a question mark at the end of the final statement. It is yet to be determined. It could happen. It could not. We won't know one way or another until it happens. Situations like this force changes in teams, we don't know what kind of change that will be yet.

Your third situation forgets the fact that we lost Spencer in the middle of the season during conference play whereas the other two we had a new recruiting class along with an entire off season and fall practice schedule to adjust to the change. Dur?

I will say one thing - our ball movement on offense was the best it's been all season last night.

next season will be better

We will have the offseason to adjust to not having Mayor, and we will add Dom to the mix, so compared to where we are now, maybe. Better than where we were with Spencer? I would like to believe that, but it's not a given at all.

Well we do know that the players have realized they will need to rely on the system now. They have said that. Will that make each player more accountable for his own assignments? Maybe. Maybe not. Will it force them to pay more attention to the scouting report from the coaches? Probably. They have admittedly had an issue with that this year. There are some benefits to being forced out of your comfort zone like they are right now. I would have preferred them try and figure this out next year against some directional school, but they were going to have to figure it out sooner or later. We will see what happens the rest of the year.

Ball movement was good as Goose said. We missed a ton of shots at the rim (not sure where it finished but we were 2-8 on layups in the first half) and 57.8% from the free throw line. UCLA also had 15 offensive rebounds to our 7. This team got production from Ski and Jelly but the others are going to have to make strides. USC will tell us much as we should beat them.

We failed to crack 60 for the second game in a row. I don't know if it is coincidence but that was UCLA's best defensive performance of the season (either home or away). We need guys to step up now.

They'll be fine, it's only been one game since Mayor got hurt. It'll take some time but they'll get there. Win this weekend and that confidence will grow some.

This is a good point....a win Saturday is extremely important to get these guys the confidence to go to the Arizona schools and not get their heads knocked off.

It's not like Tad recruited a bunch of stiffs. There's plenty of talent on this team. It will take some time for them to gel without their leader, though. That's to be expected. I'm not jumping off any bridges. The loss of Spencer will probably translate into 3-4 losses more than we would have had with him - one of which was last night. That sucks, but it's not the end of the world and it's certainly not the end of this season.

Very well said. I think Goose or Nik said this in the UCLA thread, but look at Washington. They lost one of their best players and they struggled in the OOC trying to get used to playing without one of their best guys. Now, they look to have righted the ship and are playing much better and I think we have more talent than Washington.
