4 NBA teams have fitted their arenas with some sort of 3D court projection system for the new season. The player introductions are epic. This is a test from a Cavs´ game last season.

First step to do that would be to replace the lighting system entirely and upgrade the sound system.

ehhhhh. let the NBA do their over-the-top, super-hype, pro-wrestling style pump-up-the-crowd antics. I'm old-school, but I think there's a certain atmosphere to college games that cutting-edge AV productions distract from.

Also fair point.

The Keg needs new lights though. Some that can be turned on and off instantly and dimmed. Need a hard ceiling as well. New sound system would be nice too.

The CEC probably needs to be next up on the list of athletics facilities upgrades after the IPF and stadium upgrades are completed. Hard ceiling, seating expansion, wider concourses, improved sound system, etc. all will really add to the overall experience. The CEC hasn't had a real renovation since it opened in 1980. It's overdue.

Just look at what wyoming is doing to AA. Gorgeous upgrades. Although, I would prefer them follow "The Pit" model.

The Pit is what the CEC was modeled after. Having been to both, I agree with you. It's a fantastic facility. Truly.

Although I wonder what it would take to bring the capacity of the CEC up to that of The Pit. The Pit holds over 15K. The CEC just a shade over 11K. Adding 4K seats to the CEC would be a challenge. I'm not sure how they could pull it off. Maybe take out the corner restrooms and move the restrooms to the outside of an expanded concourse. I don't think that would quite add that many seats, though. And those wouldn't exactly be premium seats, either.

Extend the north and south over the concourse on each end. Add box seats in the corners. Maybe not 15k but maybe 12.5-13k

I'm not sure I follow this logic. Why extend seating over the North and South concourses, when the premium seating is on the West and East sides?

If they can manage to figure out a way to add 8 rows to the back of the current arrangement, and take out the corner restrooms, that might get them to where they want to be. Add concessions under the areas where the seats extend out over the councourses, and widen the concourses out another 15-20 feet.

I think the ideal capacity for the CEC is right around 15-16K, but I don't know if RG shares that opinion or not. A packed CEC with 16K people in it would be an incredibly intimidating atmosphere.

That is awesome! I can almost see Holo-Ralphie running around the court at CEC now. Yeah, it is way over the top and might be out of place for the college game, but it is very cool.

What they need to do is:

1. Expand a ring around the arena that would house the concourse with built-in concessions and all bathrooms.

2. Extend current stands up so that you enter the stands through a tunnels coming from the concourse with stairs going both up and down.

3. Turn the 2 corners near where the teams come out into Club Seating. The opposite corners might allow for an expanded student section.

Well, unfortunately the old school methods aren't really working in 2014 and beyond to drive attendance
