McNeil is not alone in understanding how Auburn football operates as an underground society beneath the NCAA’s radar. “Auburn does whatever Auburn wants,” says Thorpe. In interviews with more than a dozen players from the BCS title team, a portrait emerges of a championship tainted by allegations suggesting a program going off the rails:

Academic fraud:
Three players say that before the BCS Championship game the team was told that as many as nine of their teammates would not be able to play in the title game because they were academically ineligible. “We thought we would be without Mike Dyer because he said he was one of them, but Auburn found a way to make those dudes eligible,” says Mike Blanc, a teammate and roommate of Mike McNeil’s. Dyer’s name was cited by McNeil, too. Dyer did not respond to calls to his cell phone. Before the season, McNeil says he was given an F for attendance in a computer science class. “I had B work but I missed too many classes; and I went to the instructor and said, ‘I really need this grade,’” says McNeil. “He said that he was sorry but he wouldn’t change it. I went to the person over him. She was in a position of power and backed up the instructor. I then told my counselor with the athletic department.” Within days, McNeil says, the grade was changed from an F to a C and he did not miss a game.

The NCAA didn't care that the star QB's dad solicited truckloads of cash for his kids' services. Why would they care if players actually went to class?

NCAA is too busy tracking down the directional school giving away free sandwiches to worry about these minor infractions by Auburn.

Its the frigging SEC !!!

If you think its any different at LSU or Alabama or Ol'Miss (and its likely much worse at all three) I want a whole bunch of what you're smoking.

Heck, they did this stuff at academically-vaunted U No Carolina.

...and this is why there will now only be about 10-12 teams out of the 119 D1 schools who have a prayer of ever winning the MNC. You have to be a name ($C, Michigan, tOSU, UT, OU, ND, Perv St., Bama), have redonkulous cash (Oregon), or be a fullon cheater (the SEC excepting maybe Vandy, $C, tOSU, Miami). If you aren't in one or two of those categories, you will never have a shot. The NCAA is to busy applying Blistex to their lips after visiting those respective name schools to ever effectively keep the big boys from cheating like freakin' madmen while, as others have noted, dinging Slippery Rock five schollies because a walk on got a tootsie roll from a candy dish in the AD's office.

Sure Duff likes this one, it happens everywhere. It even happens in HS where I'm from. $$$$, that's what it's about.

The bolded teams have their own academic track for athletes, one that's about as challenging as monkies pushing a button to get food. Remember Robert Smith running afoul of the tOSU staff because he wanted to take pre-med and they said "no"? Or the SI article about UM players taking upper level credit classes in "History of FB Coaching " which was Prof. Schembechler telling anecdotes and stories about his experiences as a coach? (Bo was a tenured professor at UM!!!)

Can you spell H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E , when it comes to "student athletes" at these "big boy" programs?

If I were a real stud, there's no #[]cking way I'm comming back for a few thousand when I can sign a pro contract for at least a couple hundred thousand. That makes no sense even for a stupid person.

Does this mean whOregon won the national championship? What ever became of their investigation? The NCAA must be so proud of the work they do.

This sentence had me  with the visual.

The sad part is that none of this surprises me. And keep in mind this is all occurring during the time that they were being investigated for paying Cam Newton. Amazing that the NCAA hasn't done anything and doesn't seem to mind. Effing jokes!

And ol' Jimmy Mac up in Fort Fun, was all part of this action???

Uh...Alabama and Auburn are not the same school. Not saying Bama is clean, but they sure as hell haven't had multiple former players rolling on them like this.

Bama clearly pays their former players enough to keep quiet. They take their football serious.

Just another example of why I consider college football a guilty pleasure. I love the game, but the system isn't right. I don't think there's a cure all, but with all the money being generated and players only getting scholarships that cover tuition, room and board there's bound to be corruption.

The $EC is just the New SWC, There is a lot of things that are "violations" that I frankly could care less about. However this is the kind of thing that is so blatantly wrong there has to be something done if true. Eveyone knows Cam The Sham was bought and paid for, and the game for generations has been donate the money to a church or non-profit, they get to keep a handlers fee for being the "bag man". Cam's Dad, the Good Preacher Newton had a twist in the game, the donaton was to his church. When a kid sells his game tickets for $200, whatever, who cares, Sells his game jersey so his little sister can buy her cheerleading uni's, good for him. The stuff that has to be stopped is Rev. Newton wanting $200 grand for one season, or Coach Chizik paying guys to stay in school right out of his office.
On a related note, does anyone find it "interesting" that the Whorn's hired 2 consecutive DC's from "Cheater U" ? just saying.

Get real buddy, you don't think this is happenning at Texas, OU, Ohio State, Southern Cal,, Oregon, and on and on.

I actually think Alabama runs a cleaner program that Auburn. Sure, they blow off secondary violations and give some extra benefits. But Auburn has made a science out of cheating. They have a booster/banker running the AD and hired Chizic specifically because they knew he was willing to play ball with them and buy wins based on their experience with him while he was DC. Bama is dirty. Auburn is dirt.

I do think its going on at most of the places you cited, and more. Nik hit the nail on the head though Auburn is and has historically been Cheater U

Agreed. Auburn is the SMU of the SEC. They aren't "the" school in their own state and have a massive inferiority complex. The will do ANYTHING to be competitive with Bama.
