The findings are egregious enough that academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson told The Gazette that she has called for an Inspector General's investigation of the athletic department.
The lowdown
The athletes: The troubled group included two football stars who were court-martialed. Other cadets were kicked out of the academy.
The experts: Experts blame big-money sports like football and a drive to win for corrupting service academies. The Pentagon is cracking down on teams to stem sexual assault.
The leaders: At Air Force, leaders are reacting to the allegations of misbehavior by tightening recruiting standards, beginning new programs and ordering an investigation to ensure athletes meet the school's strict conduct rules. Superintendent Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson has ordered a review of whether the athletic department aligns with academy values.
The cadets: Cadets have started new groups to stop sexual violence, including a leadership council to keep the Falcons football team on the right path.
