Don't know how many of you were watching it, but the USF vs FL Gulf Coast game went to 2 OTs.

Last second shot by FGCU was waved off. Controversial. 0.3 seconds, full court pass, looked like the FGCU guy caught and released before the clock went to zero.

I saw it, that was a ****ing unbelievable pass, the dude guarding the inbound was 7'3. I know u have to tip it at .3 but that was damn close. The ref waived it off right away but it looked like he got it off in time. He did that without even checking the monitor until he already waived it off. If the ref determines it wasn't a tip in, does the clock matter at that point?

I don't know the college rule (or if there is one), but the NBA allows only tip-ins at under .3 seconds but will allow a quick catch/release at .3 seconds.

Hinson makes me appreciate Tad's style all the more. He can be harsh in post games, but it is always coming from the direction of a teacher and how they will work together to solve a problem.

Good one going on right now.

Texas at North Carolina, with neither team playing any defense. 46-38 UT with 3:30 left in the half.

I feel dirty for pulling Texas in this one. Lesser of two evils.

I'd assume that a Texas win does more to help CU's RPI since we play 3 Big 12 teams and don't play any ACC teams this year. (If that makes you feel less dirty.)

Can you go to the monitors for basket interference?

UT, up 1 with 7.2 left, misses both FTs. UNC guys don't box out the shooter, he gets the rebound and puts it on the rim. It went in, but as it was bouncing around a UT guy grabbed the net. Refs missed it.

UT up 86-83 with 3.7 left.

Texas wins as UNC misses a great look at a 3.

Free Throw Shooting:

Texas - 20/33
UNC - 24/47

Refs kind of fell in love with the whistle in this one and no one could make anything from the charity stripe. Ugly game.

I read an article about that, and while it's similar to the NBA rule, it's slightly different. It showed the college rule and it says at .3 or less only a tip in is allowed from a pass or a missed free throw. The ref informed the bench of this prior to the play, which is why he instantly waved it off in that game.

So you're saying unc didn't know what to do with the gift from the powder-blue refs?

These reviews are getting out of control in college basketball. The final 1:30 took 20 minutes in UNC/Texas. It is killing the watchability.

You go 24-47 from the line, you don't deserve to win. Jesus, especially at home. I get the new rules and all but 47 fts is way too many IMO.

Yep when they were looking at the elbow play, that Texas kid must have waited about 10 minutes just to take his fts. That's ****ing ridiculous. Then UNC got two fts and the ball. So in about 15 of real time, the only basketball we saw was from the line. Make your calls or reviews and get the **** out the way already.

And I hate that using your elbows is now coming under all out assault. The kid wasn't trying to hit anyone at all. It's his ball and he's making that known. That's an age old play when you're dealing with the press in basketball and now they're trying to kill it off. And yeah, for that alone to be a 10 minute review is just a textbook example of these reviews doing far more harm than good. They're now reviewing practically any three pointer late in a game. Felix for Texas hit a 3 and wasn't remotely close to the line, but sure enough they stop it and review it. That's a trend I've noticed as well. Reviews are great when absolutely needed, but it has crossed into overkill and micromanagement.

This is one of the biggest problems with reviews in general, football included, is that they take too long and end up splitting hairs on these reviews. Make a hard rule that there is a 2-minute limit on reviews and if the decision isn't in by then you stick with the original call. I don't care if the ref was 3 seconds from reaching a decision, if he hasn't made the call within the 2-minute limit then tough. If you have to look at a call that long then the original call can't be that wrong in the first place. The purpose of replay should be to reverse the blatantly incorrect calls, not to analyze a play down to the finest detail.

Think Frank Martin is realizing how difficult it is to win at South Carolina. It's only year 2 but they lost to USC-Upstate by 7 today and got their doors blown off by Manhattan in their previous game. He will get 4 or 5 years to fix things but that program has been decimated with guys like Anthony Gill transferring. I can understand leaving K-State for elsewhere, but not for South Carolina. I know Martin is from Florida, but he's from Miami which is a world apart from Columbia, SC both in terms of distance and culturally. Why you would bounce to a brutal rebuild (even if you didn't particularly care for the AD at K-State) I do not get. Maybe he thought it would be an easier rebuild in a weak SEC than it is.

Speaking of practically unwatchable basketball, did anyone watch the highlights of stan/UConn?
At 8 min to go in the 2nd half, it's 49-48 Uconn, then somewhere in the 3 minute range, it's 50-49, Stan. 1 basket over 4 minutes from each team?

Kentucky was given a bit of a scare by Belmont, but seems to have the game in hand. 81-71 with a little under 3 minutes left.

Maryland is struggling today. Down at home to Boston U at the half, 32-42.

Florida State upset #22 UMass in a "neutral site game" in Sunrise, FL.

Nice, they were ahead of us in RPI.

Dammit, they dropped from #1 to #2.

Other important thing is that we want to make sure we're still in the Top 25 no matter what happens tonight. #22 losing is good for us.

Also, #21 Gonzaga is down at KSU at the half, 24-29.

In other news, good one going on between #5 Michigan State and 10-1 Texas on CBS. Tied at 17 about half way through the 1st.

KjSU just beat Gonzaga by 10.

Texas up on Michigan State 54-52 with 11:02 left.

Sparty took over and then traded buckets late to beat UT.

North Carolina doing its Jeckyll & Hyde routine, up by 3 at home to Davidson at the start of the 2nd half.
