What do you think of Vegas as a permanent venue?

I'm not a huge Vegas fan. I lived here for a time so am a bit jaded. OTOH, it's way better than, say, LA. I do worry that it benefits the AZ and Cal teams a bit. I also don't like it being home of three conference tournaments the same week. That being said, should Vegas be the permanent home of the PAC 12 tournament?
 
Right now, I think Vegas is the perfect location. The crowds are - and will be - better than they generally got in LA. With the slightly smaller arena, it looks better on TV. Plus, with Vegas being a "vacation destination", they are going to be able to draw a lot more of the casual fans than playing the tourney in some random NBA arena. I also like the fact that it truly is a neutral location. It's a very easy fly/drive destination for CU, Utah, the Arizonas, and the SoCals, yet totally accessible by air from NorCal and the PNW.
 
The primary downside of Vegas is temptation.
There will be fans, players and coaches who do something in Vegas that does not stay in Vegas.
The easy access in Sin City to the pursuit of wrath, pride, greed, gluttony, lust, sloth and envy is also, paradoxally a huge upside.
When **** goes down, the entertainment value goes up.

If you can't resist the temptation and end up compromising your marriage, you financial wellbeing, and the destiny of your soul, then stay the hell out.

Otherwise, it's a great neutral location in an area with abundant beauty, nice weather, first class amenities, and a great travel infrastructure.
 
Sounds great. Although you may end up having the same issue with the Arizona schools that the ACC has in Greensboro with the Carolina Mafia. Still, nothing can be perfect. I say keep it, unless they want to move it to Denver :thumbsup:

U$C has the same concerns about Spokane...
 
I'll tell ya one thing, this Vegas is not the Vegas I lived in from '72 to '76! This place has gotten ****ing 'spensive! Also, when you come here with you 20 something kids, they, kind of, well, not kind of, they go crazy. But, yeah, from a fan base perspective, especially the younger fan base, Vegas is a huge draw. You younguns love this place.

BTW, the area I lived in off West Sahara is now a ghetto. My apartment complex had swimming pools back then. They have now filled the swimming pools with concrete, :lol:

When I lived here, there was nothing in Henderson or out west. Just desert. Now, it is all developed. My sis left about 3 years ago. The gang banging stuff was getting really bad in the 'hoods. But the strip ain't the hood. Other than when a high speed shootout goes down and several people die.

One thing for sure, if gang bangin' starts happening on The Strip, the gang bangers will begin to, um, disappear. :smile2:

I love the idea of having three tournaments in town at the same time. I think I'll probably go next year. It'll help that CU will be freaking loaded next year and will probably be one of the favorites to win it all.

Me too. I also like AFA and CSU so it was fun to hang out with their fans. I didn't see many Denver fans though. I would probably come here every other year if they keep it here.

There aren't a lot of Denver fans. I'm a Denver fan, my dad played there. On this note, what happened to the Pio's yesterday? I know we were all focused on the Buffs, but man they laid an egg.
 
my post vanished anyway venue is unbelievable cant be beat. only drawback is the large and freaking loud u of aarp crowd

In theory it should not be neutral moreso than LA since you played in a city that housed two Pac-12 teams. No P12 teams are in Vegas or even Nevada. There's no "perfect" solution.

I'm not so concerned about the players/coaches as much as the students traveling on CU's dime. I think it's great what Mike Bohn(and the the rest of the AD) has done here. I'm just concerned about something scandalous happening and them cancelling this in the future.

Players/coaches already have plenty of temptations to begin with, sure there are more here, but if they can't look the other way, that's their problem.

I can't see the Pac-12 just being OK with going to Pullman. if they were to rotate, I think it would be NBA arenas in major cities (Pepsi Center in Denver, back to Staples, Key Arena in Seattle, Energy Solutions Arena in SLC).

The PAC 12 is ok with Pullman potentially hosting the FB championship.
 
I think Vegas is perfect for this tournament. Its easy access for everyone (except the Eugene folks). That said, I hate the MGM. The service is awful, the crowds are insane andt he hotel is just an all around cluster****. Great restaurants, but the sportsbook is a nightmare. Next year I'll stay somewhere else and get a monorail pass.
