What the Buffs need

Seems like the thing we are missing is player who is willing and able to take over the game. Last night the shockers had their 7 foot giant who took control of the boards and the paint the keep the buffs from getting back in to it.

Tonight, no one was able to be the player to take the lead and hold the terps off. Last year if it wasn't Burks, it was Higgins who would lead the team to a hard fought victory. This year, no one is stepping up. I was hoping Brown or Roberson would be the man.

I hope someone steps up before too long.

It looked like Brown was going to be the one to step up early in the first half, but once the Terps started to make it interesting he faded. It was pretty disappointing to see.

Carlon Brown

Someone needs to tell Carlon that he is the star of this team. Until he realizes this and we run the offense through him, this team wont be able to score like we've seen so far this season. Theres no one else i can see on this team that we can rely on on the offensive end.

Simple we need to stop giving minutes to Nate and Shannon just give them to Ski (i know he was in foul trouble but C'mon man). In my mind he was our most valuable player this game, couldn't have been more impressed with him both offensively and defensively i would love to see his plus minus numbers for the game. Make that change and get Cain back for rebounding and we will be pretty formidable.

Ski definitely needs to get the bulk of the minutes.

His raw +/- while he was on the court tonight was +18 by far the best tonight, Brown was the worst at -17. (Raw +/- sucks as a stat btw, but yes ski had a nice night)

If i get bored later tonight I will calculate the adjusted +/- for the game that is a better measure than the raw +/- data.

Just took a look at some of the stats, before the game I said the way to beat Maryland was to pack it in and make them shoot from the outside. Maryland was shooting 9% from 3 and made a total of 2 3's in 2 games. Well what did Maryland do? They went 11-21 from 3 tonight (52.4%), but that isn't why CU lost. Yes CU shot 52.2% from the line but that isn't why they lost either, Maryland shot 54.2% from the line. CU held on to the ball much better than they have the first 2 games, only turning it over 8 times (12.9%) compared to 25% of the time in the first 2 games, so TO's wasn't why they lost.

So why did they lose? REBOUNDING, REBOUNDING, REBOUNDING. More importantly it was rebounding down the stretch that killed them. With 8:50 left to play Maryland had a 27-26 rebounding advantage. Those last 8:50 CU got out rebounded 11-4 and subsequently got outscored by 11 over that stretch (from up 4 to losing by 7).

We're going to have our hands full with Matt Stainbrook of Western Michigan unless we get back to the basics like blocking out. 6'9 290 sophomore (looks bigger than that) averaging 23ppg and 9.5 boards.

What the Buffs need.....ughhh I hate to say it... they need GAME!!!!!!

I have yet to see the Buffs in person. But perusing this board, stats and articles, I think it's important to remember it's still November with a team that lost four pretty darn good players. I don't think you'll start seeing Boyle trim down his rotation until Pac-12 play begins.

sorry, new to these boards, what's GiA?

And he has a thread about his first dates and none of them have turned into banging, so he needs game...like our bball team. I hate explaining jokes, but you don't have access to that thread, so I will let it slide.

thanks utterbuffluv.....and i dread what the consequences would be if dorkwad...i mean rugged wouldn't have let it slide....and after explaination...still don't see any humor

I think Adams could make a difference when he comes back. We need another shooter.

any word on adams? and when can cain start playing?

I'm hoping to see them both make their debut against AFA. Would help a ton to let them get their feet wet in game action ahead of the Georgia matchup.

i agree, cain can really help especially after seeing what could happen if one of our bigs get into foul trouble, I bet chen is sore as hell defending the post today against #33 whitfield, that dude was big... also ski just kicked ass.... but was wondering if anyone has heard about adams, is he cleared to practice/play yet?

You sound familiar. No mind you, little buddy.

I am a little surprised they didn't make the trip to PR, just for team unity and the what not. Anybody know if that is a Boyle rule or a school rule why they didn't travel?

From what I know about Boyle, it's probably him. When Shane missed the opening practice due to injury and was on the exercise bike instead, Boyle wouldn't answer questions about him. He said that he only concerns himself with players who are on the court.

I didn't realize he was a decedent from the Belichick school. I get him not talking about players not on the court, but still think for team chemistry and unity taking them to PR would have been a good idea. These are two players that are new to the team and at least for Cain, learning how to be away from home for the first time, I think taking them with could make them feel part of something bigger and really buy into the program.

I would prefer Cain lifting weights and running sprints all week. Hopefully he was doing that.
