We are improved and improving. No result from this game is going to change that.
Fresno has more talent than us. Simple truth. I think MM is a better coach than DeRuyter, but I don't think that matters in this game.
I don't see a situation where we win big, but if did somehow, I see us being more than competitive with the lower tier of the Pac-12, which means 3 more wins and bowl game is possible, but not assured.
A close game, win or lose, is what I expect. If we win, great, that's 3-0 and we know that MM has us on the right track, but as I said, we already know that. If we lose a close one, I don't think it says any more or less than a win, just makes it probably impossible to get into a bowl game, regardless of what kind of surprise we are in the conference.
If we lose in a blowout, I think we'll all be disappointed, but I think it will show us that our talent level has to improve before we can get to a competitive level in the Pac and bowling become a real possibility. In other words, the project will be longer out than we hoped it would be.
All I really want to see from this game is consistent effort. I think we've seen the competitive desire from this team. With last year's coaching staff, I have no doubt we would be 0-2 at this point and looking down the barrel of a winless season. What we've seen thus far is a team that is willing to work hard even when adversity strikes. I want - expect - to that again this week. Last year the Fresno game was the most humiliating game I've ever seen a Buff team a part of. Much more humiliating than Montana St or Sacramento St, because of the way we gave up. I don't think that will happen again, but I want to see it to be sure.
