What's the rotation? Going to be very interesting to see who redshirts....

XJ, Dinwiddie, Scott, Booker, Gordon as starters? Does Thomas start over Gordon?

Thomas, Talton sound like the first two of the bench?

Fletcher, Hopkins, Jenkins.....

That's 10 deep. Could they redshirt Hopkins given the improvement of Talton? Will they possibly redshirt Fletcher as well?

Will Stalzer see the court at all?

I think the starting 5 will consist of Mayor, Ski, XJ, Scott and gordon at 1-5 in most situations.
However, if he's looking for a shorter line up, He could play mayor, ski, jenkins/hopkins/thomas, XJ and Jelly.

I think talton will be one of the first ones off the bench, but I think the other one right off the bench will be jenkins, providing he can play D hard. The reason that I say this is that tad probably wants someone who can defend come off the bench, and I'm guessing that the redshirts and the sophs are more familiar with what tad wants in that area than the frosh are.

As for the red-shirt this year, Im thinking it'll be King, mostly based on the fact that I havent heard much about him and how he said he had trouble focusing when he started HS.

Tad has given Dustin Thomas the coveted "most consistent" award so far. He's gonna play a lot.

I agree with your starters, but I doubt Booker/Gordon play as many minutes as the others. I doubt Thomas starts over Gordon since Boyle values defense first, and it is very rare to find a true frosh learning BOyle's system to start day 1. Perfect example: Chen started over XJ till conference play.

Maybe by the start of Pac12 play or close to it, but not at the beginning of the year. Gordon already has a year in the system, and he supposedly is the best post defender on the team.

I'm actually very excited about the improvement of Talton. I'd figured he was recruited over, and he would be at the bottom of the bench; now, I think he can get some time if his offense turns around. I expect our bench to have Thomas, Fletch, Jenkins and Hopkins on it. Not sure how Boyle will configure the lineups, but it is a great probelm to have compared to the last year's bench of Chen, Tunks, Adams, Talton and Stalzer.

I'm expecting George King to reshirt because of his rawness, barely qualifying and his position is overloaded with players, and I believe all the other frosh will play. King has a ton of potential though!

Also, I doubt Stalzer gets really any meaningful time (probably in blowouts at best) because he doesn't really bring anything to the table that we don't have. I think he transfers because I don't see him getting any playing time now or in the future barring a ton of injuries.

Why would Stalzer transfer? He has a scolarship to an out of state school. Even if he is the third, fourth or fifth option at PG, he is in for a good ride over the next few seasons. I think he will serve an important role as an upper classman on this team in a year or two.

That's a pretty deep bench. I don't see us using a 10 man rotation.....would think 8 get a lot of playing time, with 2 more getting 5-7 mins/game.

Agreed - there is zero reason for Stalzer to transfer. He basically bailed out Tad when he didn't think Talton was coming along enough his Sr yr, Tad's not going to force him out if he practices hard (which by all accounts he does) and he's a serviceable backup PG. Not happening.

I don't think anyone redshirts. I think some guys get spot minutes and are slightly disappointed, but I don't think anyone RS's.

I think Scott, Gordon, X Johnson, Booker, Dinwiddie start. Sounds like Dustin Thomas, Xavier Talton are seen fairly highly right now. Imagine they are the first two players off the bench. Hopkins is going to get some burn. After that, think it gets a bit murky.

Mills will play if the front line gets in foul trouble, or to just give them a quick rest. Fletcher, King and Jenkins all will be fighting for minutes. Still believe King gets the red shirt. Stalzer probably only plays if there is foul trouble, injuries or if the game gets out of hand.

I wouldn't start Gordon. He will be prone to fouls and frustration, with very little offensive production minus the scrap put backs he will earn. Let him spell Scott off the bench for 10-15 minutes. Stalzer will be buried so far in the depth chart, it would serve him best to transfer to where he can play. I'm assuming the competitor in Eli doesn't want to sit his entire career.

I'd start:
Scott
Johnson
Fletcher
Booker
Dinwiddie

Off the bench in this order:
Talton
Thomas
Gordon
Jenkins
Hopkins

1 - Mayor backed up by Talton
2 - Ski backed up by Hopkins
3 - XJ backed up by Jenkins/Fletcher
4 - Gordon backed up by Thomas
5 - Jelly backed up by Mills

I believe Tad has been quoted as saying he wants to use a 10 man rotation. He has the athleticism this year to do it. Provided the freshman are as advertised.

I think Dustin will get minutes like Dre and XJ did as freshmen under Tad. Won't start at the beginning of the year. May never start (like Dre), but as the season goes along and the team proves to be better with Dustin on the floor, we'll see him playing starter's minutes and on the court to close games.

4 - Gordon backed up by Thomas
5 - Jelly backed up by Mills
Not so sure about that. There are so many different combinations Tad can use where Gordon essentially is backing up Scott with Thomas or XJ at the four. I just do not see Mills as a primary back up.

Until I see evidence of it, I'm skeptical of there being a situation where CU is going to be a better team if 1 of the 5 guys on the court is Ben Mills.

Would be awesome if I'm wrong about that.

I think I agree with you, but what I saw from Ben at the scrimmage was very impressive. He looked much much improved IMO.

Doesn't mean he sees the floor a lot...just means that is his main backup....I think that Fletcher and Jenkins will be in a pressing 3/4 man role more than Mills will see the floor...he is the 11th guy in a 10 man rotation

This is pretty much my thoughts, only I'm thinking Fletcher gets lumped in with Hopkins. King, Jenkins, Eli, etc. will be fighting for the 10th spot and it will probably depend on matchups/hot hand.

For the guys who aren't in line for 15+ minutes right now, their focus needs to be on what they do when the ball's not in their hand. D up. Set strong screens. Box out. Hustle. That's what will earn more minutes from Tad. He's looking for someone to give him the Nate / Sab grittiness.

Agreed. Fletcher is already polished and should play some big minutes for us this year. Paying attention to rankings is overrated but he was the highest rated player in our class. He is going to impress this year.

CU is going to settle into a nice 9 man rotation by mid-season. Here is my prediction.

Starters: Scott, Gordon, XJ, Booker, Dinwiddie.

Bench (10-20 mpg): XT, Hopkins, Fletcher, Thomas

Bench (1-9 mpg): Jenkins, Stalzer, Mills

Redshirt: King

:yeahthat:
I want to see Talton spell Booker quickly if Booker's cold, with XT at #1, moving Mayor to #2. Mayor is a true #2 who can play the point, but Talton IS a point.

Seems about right to me. I prefer Booker in a 6th man role with Hopkins or Fletcher starting but it's more likely Booker will start.

I was close to putting Fletcher right there with Hopkins. I think most of what I have heard and read would indicate that you are correct. It's just I was unable to put Jenkins at #10 or lower on the depth chart. I know he has struggled from most reports, and has battled a number of different injuries. But he did take a redshirt year, and you would think that would have some benefit to him, over at least some of the freshmen
