Lefty is essentially correct - Winning is not a priority for Mike Bohn. It never has been. He wants a clean department that turns a profit. He wants community buy-in. He wants butts in the seats, regardless of the performance of the team on the field. Much of this attitude stems from the fact that he has had a very limited budget. It will be interesting to see what he does with the boatloads of money that will be coming in starting next year. The Embree hire was a hire of convenience. Embree doesn't cost much, and he can get people excited. I really don't think Embree would have been hired had winning been the priority.
This is the part that bugs me the most. I agree, MB was putting the bite on everyone about supporting your team when it was crystal clear HaLk was a collossal failure. I love the Buffs, but I have a hard time shelling out 50, 60 bucks a seat to watch a losing effort. Not just a losing effort, but one where the team is getting blown out. If the AD and the admin. aren't serious about fielding a team that is worth a damn, why shoud I pay through the nose to watch a half-assed product? The real danger here is that the difference between the 22,000-25,000 season ticket holders and the average 44,000 attendance number is the casusal fan. The person who gets up to see 1, 2 or 3 games a year. That's me. I only get to that many games because I am busy with kid related activities, and getting to games usually requires juggling, or sometimes, rescheduling, those activities. Tell me, why should I do that, if the AD and the admin. really just want to have a team, and have no commitment to winning? Why shouldn't my commitment, and my spending, be in line with their attitude? Of course this is rhetorical as I am sure I will still attend games when I can, but Bon-Bon has used up any goodwill the casual fan might have with the crap that has been on the field for past six years, and the real danger is that people decide it makes more sense to go skiing, camping, watch HS sports etc. than to drop 60 bucks a seat to watch the Buffs get mudpuddled week after week.
As far as Embo goes, I am on record saying I wanted someone else...but that wasn't going to happen, he couldn't even be the Homecoming Grand Marshall because the GLBT tolerate us crowd, couldn't tolerate him. Mac aside, I don't know who would have been a better viable candidate for HC. MB, Dr. Phil, Brucey and D II had completely removed CU from the national FB landscape and IMO, most of the qualified candidates would have seen CU as a joke with no admin. support. Why would they have come?
I think Embo can get the job done. But we are YEARS from being competitive again. If Embo and EB can get on the recruiting trail and bring in the talent, CU will return to the perennial top 25 team I believe they can be. It will be done in spite of the admin., though, who are content to be a participant in the P12.
