All season, people close to the program were saying that he was a lock to turn pro.

However, recent reports from the same insiders have been that Burks is really tight with Sharpe and Dre, that he's leaning toward coming back, but his parents are counseling him to turn pro since it looks like he'll be a lottery pick if he comes out this year.

Confusing the matter even further is that Burks has already set up his class schedule for the summer and fall semesters. However, he is also reportedly interviewing agents this week.

It sounds like he's doing a good job of covering all bases and making an informed decision (as he should be).

Do you think he'll play another year for CU? What would you advise if he asked you?

If there's a lockout don't go. Who cares if you're a lottery pick if you won't be getting paid.

It does sound like he's taking all the right steps, covering all the bases. I'm not sure how this is gonna turn out, but I think he'll get it right when he makes the decision.

If you're lottery, you will still eventually get paid. The NBA draft (all drafts really) are very fickle save for a few players, and Burks isn't great enough to count on being a lottery pick in 2013 if has a subpar or injury season. If I were him, I'd leave...

I realize that but if he's not going to get paid now, he should stay in college on his schloarship for free.

i'm gonna be a lone crazy person...He comes back and we win the inaugural PAC-12 tournament

I think, given his relationship with sharpe, he is talked into coming back by the team.

They want him, the fans want him, the school wants him. His parents are right, if he is a lotto pick he should be gone no doubt, but anything less than that I seem him leaving. I think the relationship he has with Chauncey is paying off here in him covering all the bases and making sure to look at everything. BTW I am glad to not hear Tad's name involved in any of this, he is doing exactly what a good coach does in times like these, let the player make up their own mind and support them whatever they choose.

Another factor that I have heard somewhere (maybe here), but if he leaves after his junior year, and is a bust in the NBA, he will leave with a couple mil in the pocket, likely not enough to live the rest of his life off of, and there he is, 2 years from a degree trying to get work. If he stays for one more year, then goes pro, and he is a bust, he is 1 year from a degree, and could easily go back and finish it up. Going back to school to finish up 2 years is not going to happen, but a single year, a hand full of classes is very doable.

I am all for people leaving to make the big bucks, but if they turn out to be a bust in the NBA, the signing bonus is not enough to live your whole life off of. (Enough for me to live off of, but not someone who is going to have their life match their income) Getting the tools to be sucessful in the NBA long term, and the backup tools to be sucessful in the working world is key to being truely sucessful.

Lol, in the words of White Sox announce Ken Harrelson "He Gone!"

This isn't about a lockout, or a degree, or really even money (although it doesn't hurt). This is about a kid trying to fulfill a life long dream, while in the process doing right by his family. It's not like Shannon and Dre don't have cellphones. Al: take your walk, shake David Stern's hand, and take your richly deserved moment in the sun. The rest will shake itself out.

IMO this is a win win decision for him, which is the best type of decision.

He stays, plays with his friends, has fun. Probably wins more games at CU than he would at a one of the 10 worst teams in the NBA. The crowd loves him, he gets his own chants on ESPN/FOX/COMCAST/WHATEVER all the time. He plays a lot in games, he's the one with the ball at the end of halfs/games, practices being a clutch player and the clear cut team leader. He's big man on campus, fills his phone with coeds who would do anything for him at any time.:dance2::hitit:

He leaves, gets somebody to work on his game 24/7. Gets to buy his own sweet ride, pay off his Mom's house and travel the country doing what he's always dreamed of doing since he was 6. His life would consist of waking up, watching film, working out, shooting, eating, playing xbox, playing about 10 minutes a game in the NBA, pimping gatorate G2, and sleeping. He could still stop by Boulder and chat up his friends about what it's like in the league, and they can go to his huge house on fall break and drink underage :smokin:

Both of those sound pretty sick. I personally don't think he's a top 10 pick, but if I were him, I'd still leave. We can't even imagine how much he's going to make as soon as he signs his name. College exists to try to make you become successful in life. I'd say a couple 100k to play bball would be a pretty good way to do that.

I've wondered about ego in these decisions. If you have an ego, you'd come out early and make your money. If you have a big ego, you'd stay so you could get drafted higher next year and make more money. If you have a huge ego, you'd come out early because then you'd be one year closer to making the huge dollars with your second contract?

I had a dream that he stayed the other night. I am very in tune with my dreams like Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks, so it must mean something.

Lets not all forget that even if he does come back next year, he will be going to the NBA. Its not like this is his only chance to make a team, he will make a team regardless, the only risk is a lower draft pick. But think of it this way, what would be better, go in with a good draft pick, get the big bonus, then fizzle out because you arent ready to make that leap, or be picked at a lower draft pick, then play for many years as a sucessful NBA player.

In the short term obviously the big signing deal is better, but he is much better off positioning himself to play for a long time.

I agree it would be pretty sweet to make 3 or 4 mil for only playing a couple years, but if that is your only skill it wont pay your whole way, you need to be in the league for a few more years.

If Alec is going to the NBA early, I would advise him to be very modist with his spending for the first couple of years untill he has a good nest egg. Most college grads will make 3 or 4 mil in their careers, just their careers are 30 years, not 3 years...

Still makin my decision on wednesday I'm in no rush

Sounds like wednesday is the day...

I am glad that he is stickin with his deadline. I hope its a big publicity thing, big news conference or something. Would bring some big time media attention to CU.

Wednesday is 4:20

He can have his presser at Farrand field since every media outlet will be there to capture the moment

There's a damn good chance theirs a lockout next season.

Dammit, man, it's "there's" not "theirs". Please take an English class at CU because your grammar is consistently awful.

Alec should go. ESPN has him as a potential lottery pick and he is definitely a first round pick. Most of us will never have the opportunity to make the kind of money he can guarantee himself by declaring for the draft (regardless of whether there is a lockout). If he comes back to school, I will love it, but there are no guarantees. He risks blowing out a knee and blowing millions of dollars in the process.

My bad for using the wrong version of there or their. Not a major concern of mine, especially on the internet.

Whatever. It's the internet and I'm not an English major.

You're an idiot that roots for about twelve different college teams. I'm convinced you spend your days posting here, at the Michigan boards and on the SC boards. I don't give a **** that you're not an English major, everyone else here can write like a ****ing adult. You know why you get so much **** about your Mom? Because you don't know how to write and posted something that had a different meaning than you intended. Dammit, Creatini, I'm trying to be patient with you, but you bring this **** on yourself.
