Will OL be better in 2014?

We lose Handler and Harris.
If Mustoe can play well at LT we should be better. Mustoe was a good recruit so hopefully he can come thru. Irwin will be back, which is essentially an upgrade over Handler with Crabbe or Munyer moving to C. Nembot has looked better the last two games and could be really good in 2014.
i got to believe we will be better on OL next year; but it sure would have been nice to haves picked up 2 or 3 of the highly rated instate OL recruits available in the JE years. A juco OL would be great too.

Pinning your hopes on Mustoe isn't good odds. I'd pray that Harris (a) wants a 6th year, and (b) the NCAA grants him a medical redshirt.

Can we get any worse? So we go from 1.8ypc in the running game to 1.2ypc.

Not really that much difference.

The scary thing is that unless the light turns on for Nembot or some of these freshmen that are redshirting show something really early, we are likely looking at an OL that could be worse than this years model, which is scary as hell. I'm so sick of pinning my hopes on "next year" as the year the OL is finally good. We're going on six years of terrible to barely serviceable OL's despite having multiple a couple of guys as high NFL draft picks.

I think most of us on AB picked CU to win 2 or 3 games this year. Yet we're so upset over performances like this one?

It all starts up front. our OL is like a flimsy screen door and the DL couldn't push my grandma back.

We are the smallest, slowest and least talented program in the PAC. We have some promising younger players and hopefully a good QB.

This is going to take a while...

Irwin is the guy I hope slides into LT.
I think you are right about Irwin play LT; but I would much rather someone else become a solid LT and team Irwin and Nembot together so we at least have a chance to open some holes for the running game. Like a poor man's version of Gurode and Rogers. Alright a very poor man's version. If Mustoe is not the man, maybe Kroshage, or a JUCO.

The last 2 recruiting classes brought us:

OT Jeromy Irwin
OL Gerrard Kough

OT Gunnar Graham
OG Jonathan Huckins
OT Sam Kronshage
OT John Lisella (Greyshirt)
OG Colin Sutton

Has anyone heard anything about these o/l ? Any of them making waves in practice or standing out on scout team?

Irwin will be a stud, he'd easily be starting for us right now if he didn't get hurt

Sent from a red light

This. We haven't had a decent offensive line since Barney's leftovers were here. I'm sick of it. Especially now that the line has progressed to awful.

I sure hope so. A lot of CU's problems start on the OL and DL. There are no nasty and mean guys that will take over the line of scrimmage. It is a trickle effect. 1 guy on each side of the ball step up and start making some big plays and the momentum will spread. CU has a roster full of soft entitled players that are use to losing. That has to change or we as fans are doomed to spend our lives and money rooting for losers. Coaches and AD's making big bucks only does so much.
Coaches can get players into position to make the play, then it is on said player to make that play.

Its because Hawk recruited WAC players and Embree could hardly recruit anybody. We are behind. Way behind.

Mac isn't afraid to make changes at positions...why haven't there been any changes there? Are these really the best 5 we have?

Right now unfortunately probably yes. The young guys we have are all very raw, developmental types.

I hope that next year we are better. No guarantees but losing Handler may be addition by subtraction, he plays like JE is still the coach, confused and uninspired, Munyer wouldn't be a huge loss either although he does have another year.

Harris isn't that good either. Saw him get used a few times in the first half. Nembot isn't good...yet. Honestly, this group is pretty pathetic.

On the flip side...could giving the young kids some playing time make the game any worse? Mac should have put in some of these guys in the second half to evaluate them. Oh well...that's why he makes millions and I am on Allbuffs.

Paulay Asiata could have been that guy.

Even though it can be argued the guy son the roster aren't the greatest talent as a group, simply having this very young group go through the system and become Juniors and Seniors will be helpful and hopefully get us back to average.

That said, that doesn't help us much next year, when they will still mostly be sophs. sigh.

With Sefo in now, we can't be experimenting with the OL. Whatever it takes to keep him from getting broken in half. He looks tiny. Max protect, lots of 3 step drops, quick slants.

The attrition of most of the talented offensive line recruits leaving the state has been devastating to this program.

fify

I like Nembot and the kid is a physical specimen but at almost any decent BCS program he would still be down the depth chart as they work on teaching him how to play the position, here he is one of our better starters.

The hole in the talent at the position is glaring.

He and Handler are arguably the worst starters on offense.

Handler I give you hands down. I am not impressed by Munyer either and Crabb has his "moments." I would also put Fernandez near the top of weak starters on offense and considering his limitations recieving you might as well put him in with the OL. Nembot is probably the second best athlete we have starting (after Harris) on the OL but still has huge holes in his game.

This is my point. As many mistakes as Nembot makes, as badly as he can get beaten by guys who take advantage of his limitation in his footwork, he is still better than other guys starting on the same offensive line. Our inside guys are small, weak, and slow in addition to their technique errors.

Even though we are not anything to write home about at the other offensive postions (except for Richardson) the offensive line is absolutely weaker than most of the rest of the starting offensive positions and the root of much of our offensive problem

You can argue details all you want but the bottom line is that none of our OL starters are at the level that they need to be for our offense to function in the PAC12. How many of the guys we have starting on the OL would be the starters at at least 3 other PAC schools, how many even 1.
