Will the Big 12 expand this summer?

I was arguing with a Lammie fan on the Denver Post that the Big12 has no intention on expanding now that they have a moderately nice new TV contract. He claims the Big12 wants to get back to 12, and will be expanding as soon as this summer.

What say you Allbuffs?

They will not expand. They have an even number of teams finally to play a full football round robin, and do not want to split the revenue any more than it already is.

They will not expand this summer. If they do, that is really bad news for CSU because they will be left out of the party.

yes the Big 12 is looking for a powerhouse like CSU. How ****ing stupid is that student body.

If I remember correctly, Texas and OU don't want to expand because it is one more hurdle in getting to the NC, and with their name recognition, they are probably right. Big 12 is not expanding. CSU is destined for the CUMSAWC instead...or did that blow up as well?

The quick answer is "Ask Deloss Dodds."

The only schools I can think of that would actually add value would be BYU, Memphis and Louisville. I'm not so sure about Memphis, but it would probably work. It would give UT another whipping boy. They're always on the lookout for new whipping boys. In any event, CSU doesn't add anything to the pot. Maybe, someday, after they build their big new stadium and Ft. Collins/Loveland/Greeley grows to a population of around a million, then they might bring something to the table.

Louisville would be at the top of the list. That would actually give WVU a travel partner and make a lot of sense. The problem is, there aren't any good options to go with Iowa State. And if you've got 12 teams and the unbalanced schedules you really need to have travel partners.

I hear North Dakota State is really, really good. Don't underestimate the huge number of TV sets in the Red River Valley. There's at least 200, maybe more.

Speaking of TV sets- is there any truth to the lamb's claim that they bring the Denver market or are they too far removed?

Without certain guarantees, what school would really want to join that conference until they can demonstrate that their a solid conference with lots to offer? Even though Beebe is gone, I still think in a few years they could start the implosion process all over again.

Not really since the Big 12 isn't set up like the Pac-12. The Pac-12 has its own network and that network (and, therefore, the conference) makes a ton of money by getting onto the Denver metro cable platform. For the Big 12, it would only be about what the local team would do for ESPN ratings for putting on a Big 12 game in Denver. Having CSU in the conference would have a negligible impact on the ratings of the UT-OU game and there's not much evidence that CSU's conference games would draw high ratings locally.

That Denver TV Market sure brought out the CSU fans to Mile High last fall.
truf
unless CSU can consistently put a lot more butts in the seats at Invesco, it's painfully obvious to even the most ignorant observer that any claim to bring the Denver tv market is nothing more than fantasy.

A team that wants $20-$30 million a year, cash. But the Big 12 isn't looking to expand, and if they are ever looking in the future, they're looking for football schools.

Why would they go to Invesco? Why do we go to Invesco?

There's a limit to the amount of abuse I'll tolerate from DPD and Invesco stadium personnel. The game stopped being fun a long time ago. I kept going because there are a limited number of opportunities to see CU play a football game, and I don't like to forego those opportunities. BUT, like I said, there's a limit to the amount of abuse I'm willing to put up with. I've very nearly reached that limit.

I am likely going this year, but you have to understand why the people in the fanbase out of school are beyond annoyed with Invesco.
You think I like Invesco? I despise it. Maybe not as much as Sacky but college football should not be played there, it needs to be on campus.
