Don't get the Monty love. Why is this guy considered so great? Is he really one of the top four coaches on the league? Altman, Boyle, Miller... Sendek, Romar, Alford... And Monty? Seems to me like he's one of four guys that make up the middle of the pack in the conference.

And yes, I may be reaching on the Alford love. I'm basing that off of what he did at UNM, which was impressive no matter how you look at it.

Seriously??

5-time Pac 10/12 champion (at 2 different schools)

4-time Pac 10 coach of the year

He's the only coach on your list that has taken a team to the Final Four.

In 31 seasons as a head coach in college, he has had 1 losing season.

So yeah Monty can coach.

Sacky means.. What has he done the past two years since everyone started watching cu hoops.

Averaged 22 wins a season, won a game in the NCAA tournament this year, coached Allen Crabbe to conference player of the year...

You better check your facts.

I guess I don't see what he has done lately to deserve so much admiration. I know he has a solid résumé, seems like Boyle out-coaches him fairly regularly.

I think we just match up well against them. His teams beat us both times at Cal. Look at Arizona State, is Sendek a better coach than Tad, or do we match up poorly against Arizona State?

Yeah, I saw that Cal made it to the 3rd round this year and assumed he won 2 games. I hate that the play-in games are now considered "round 1".

Monte is not so fond of the play in games either.

Longevity and the fact that there aren't a ton of top coaches in the Pac12. Romar has lost a little shine the past couple of years, Sendek is solid, but hasn't done much to take advantage of the talent sitting in his backyard, and Alford had just as many critics as admirers. Putting Monty in the top 4 is fair.

Montgomery is the deacon of Pac-12 coaching. We don't give him enough respect. The last 2 years, he's had no depth and holes in his lineup but gotten solid results. He's the conference's best until the day he retires (which I think is within the next 2 or 3 years).
