There was a time when the Colorado women’s basketball team was among the best in the country.
As the 2010s came to a close earlier this week, that time seems long ago. Much like the football team at CU, the women’s basketball program has fallen on hard times and the last decade was the worst in program history.
Since the start of the 2010-11 season, the Buffs have had a .515 overall winning percentage, and .323 winning percentage in conference. The 2010s included just one NCAA Tournament appearance (2013) for the Buffs, who have missed the postseason all together in four of the last five seasons.

Again, similar to the football team, the women’s basketball program appears to be on the right track, though. Head coach JR Payne is building her roster and the Buffs come into Friday’s matchup at No. 2 Oregon with a 12-0 record.
Before the Buffs hit the floor for their first game of the 2020s, BuffZone is taking a look back at the 2010s with our all-decade team for women’s basketball. Despite struggles as a team, it was a decade that featured some of the best players in program history.
FIRST-TEAM
Guard – Chucky Jeffery (2009-13): The best all-around player at CU in the last decade, Jeffery is the only player in program history to rank top six in points (sixth, 1,644), rebounds (fifth, 921), assists (fifth, 481) and steals (third, 283). Only three players at CU have had more double-doubles than Jeffery (32), who also posted two of CU’s four triple-doubles. She was two-time first-team All-Pac-12, named to the Pac-12 all-defensive team and received All-American honorable mention as a senior. In 2012-13, she led CU to its only NCAA Tournament appearance in the last 15 years. She was then selected in the second round of the WNBA draft in 2013 – the last CU player to be drafted – and has played overseas since leaving CU.

Guard – Kennedy Leonard (2015-19): Wrapped up her career last season after becoming the program’s all-time leader in assists (664) and setting a CU record for assists per game (5.8). She also finished her career ranking seventh in points (1,635) and steals (238) and ninth in 3-pointers made (156). Leonard made the Pac-12 all-freshman team in 2015-16 and twice earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors – joining Jeffery as the only Buffs to do that. She led the Buffs in scoring average three times. Currently, she is playing in Germany.
Forward – Arielle Roberson (2012-14): Played just two seasons with the Buffs because of injuries, but started 62 of 64 games and posted 12.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. She also had 10 career double-doubles. Roberson was the Pac-12 freshman of the year in 2012-13 and twice earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention. Played her final season as a graduate transfer at West Virginia, earning All-Big 12 honorable mention.

Forward – Brittany Spears (2007-11): CU’s all-time leading scorer, she played most of her career in the previous decade, but had career highs of 19.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game as a senior in 2010-11. Ranks top-four in CU history for points (first, 2,185), scoring average (second, 17.2 ppg), 3-pointers (third, 237) and rebounds (fourth, 997), while also racking up 31 career double-doubles. She was selected by the Phoenix Mercury in the second round of the 2011 WNBA Draft.
Forward – Jamee Swan (2012-16): Arguably the Buffs’ best true post player of the decade, she received All-Pac-12 honorable mention twice. Ranks seventh in CU history in rebounds (772) and 21st in points (1,245) and posted 14 career double-doubles. Became a starter as a junior and in her final two seasons, she averaged 13.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
SECOND-TEAM
G – Quinessa Caylao-Do (2016-current): Senior leader for the Buffs this year, she’s improved every year. As a junior, posted career highs in scoring (11.1 ppg) and rebounds (4.2 rpg), while also being named Pac-12 all-defensive team honorable mention.
F – Jen Reese (2011-15): Two-time all-Pac-12 honorable mention selection, she currently ranks 14th in program history in rebounds (686) and 22nd in points (1,200). As a senior, posted career highs of 12.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

G – Alexis Robinson (2015-19): Closed her career last spring ranking 18th in CU history in points scored (1,285) and seventh in 3-pointers made (186). A two-time All-Pac-12 honorable mention, she averaged at least 11.4 points three times.
G/F – Haley Smith (2013-17): Developed into a good and reliable all-around player during her career. She started 114 of 127 games played and currently ranks 16th in CU history in rebounds (631) and 27th in points (1,102). Earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention as a senior.
G – Brittany Wilson (2010-14): A four-year starter who played in 133 games, Wilson played much of her career with Jeffery and Spears, but still provided some scoring punch. She ranks 23rd in Buffs history in points (1,194) and is the only CU player other than Jeffery to make the All-Pac-12 defensive first team, in 2012-13.
