Gave a lot of history and background for the game. Closed with, "Husker who?".

I've got to say, Woody has been strongly supporting CU athletics lately. He seems to have a good relationship with Bohn and Plati as well as a lot of respect for Embree and Boyle.

Whatever your opinion of Woody, he's the most prominent Denver area sportswriter so having him in our corner is a big deal. Unlike some others at the DP, I actually encourage people to click on his articles because it shows that Buffs fans respond to good reporting about the programs.

Do you guys see Utah becoming a big rivalry?

He goes to a lot of the CU games too. I see him at Folsom a few times a year which is more than most of the other denver sports writers.

There is too much out there to not believe that CU-Utah will be a good rivalry. At the same time, CU and Utah are looking for a respectful rivalry after dealing with Husker and BYU fans for too long.

I think the only way this series fails as a rivalry is if it becomes very one-sided early on and/or if both schools are perennially in the lower third of the conference. The foundation is there for a great rivalry right out of the gate.

I think it will be a rivalry, but over time. The only hold up I could see is if/when Embree gets this thing rolling, we may look at them as a little brother a little. Given how we know Colorado is a better state to live in, better university, better mountains, etc.

nothing would help the rivalry more than if the first 2-3 games came right down to the wire. and both teams are building towards being legit bowl teams, again.

I honestly think there is too much history between the schools for this to not become a rivalry. I mentioned in a thread a while ago I had emailed Bohn about this series. The AD is very interested in recreating this rivalry. It used to be THE rivalry along the front range. There are working on a Trophy for this game to be used not just with football but all sports. Its in the works, and I dont see why it wouldnt become one. The only hold up I see is that UU and BYU are still pissing on each other.

CSU will be our main rival next year. Not feeling Utah as a rival.

After last year's game, I don't think so. A Dan Hawkins coached team easily dispatched of CSU and spent the 2nd half gameplanning for that disaster in Berkley. CSU sucks!

I am perfectly content to allow the rivalry thing develop on it's own. There's some artificial impetus being given to the game based on them moving it to Black Friday, which I totally disagree with. The CU/NU game was a big game because it had developed into a big game over many years. The CU/UU game has been on hiatus since before most of us were born. It's going to take a while to get that back.

I think the opposite is true. I think both teams have to be good for the game to mean anything and become a rivalry. For example, for all I know, Iowa State and Kansas are rivals, but who knows/cares?

This will be a rivalry that will be manufactured, with media, not fans, leading the campaign.

The fans will be puppets in this fabrication.

It'll take time for the fans to get to know each other and learn to love/hate playing each other.

I expect it'll turn into a rivalry, but will take some time. More than anything, we need to get good again (at a minimum, competing for the P12 south title every year). Until that point, this forced talk of who our next rival is gonna be is kinda lame.

It will take some time but there is enough there from skiing to start it and I think it will develop from a basketball standpoint as well. It may not be a traditional way to start a rivalry, but I think football may follow along because of some of the other sports we compete in stoke it from the start.

I'll have you know that I have an increasing supply of pissbombs that are kept in several coolers in my basement that have an expiration date of 11/25/2011. Not to worry, the water balloons were initially dunked in a polymer compound solution that makes the balloons resistant to acidity of urine over an extended period of time. For anyone who would like to contribute on this process, here is the manufacturer that makes the polymer compound solution: http://www.polycoatings.com/acidprotection.html

One of the things I like about pairing up with Utah as a rival. The Nub rivalry was great for football, but the heat wasn't there for hoops and other sports. That crossover will be good for us. Basketball will be very intense from the start regardless of records due to the bad blood with Carlon Brown.

While I believe the CU-UU series will get back to being a rivalry again, I would like for the media to not manufacture the rivalry.

PR & Marketing cannot manufacture a rivalry.

A. PR & Marketing can hype it up to get people to take notice.

C. PR & Marketing can reinforce the greatness of the matchup following tight games, spectacular moments, meaningful results, or controversies.

What PR & Marketing cannot deliver is the all-important "B" - the actual product on the field. The games have to deliver something that is marketable. It's the same as in any business that works on the repeat business model instead of turn and burn fads. CU and UU athletics are clearly long-term businesses.

Don't forget the vast media conspiracy to forward the liberal Boulder agenda against BYU and by extension the entire state of Utah...at least according to one of their crackpot sports writers. I know his article was written from the perspective of BYU but he seemed to get some jabs in there on the perception of SLC and the State.

I did read somewhere that Bohn and Utah's Hill is working on the marketing for the CU-UU game. I'm curious to see the fruit of that work.

If my experience of Ute fan at the Vegas bowl vs Boise last December is any indication it won't take long to develop a major dislike for them. I saw a large number walking around the stadium before the game just going off on Boise's fans. Sticking their stupid finger-made "U" signs in their faces and practically screaming at them. I had my CU hat on and no one said **** to me, but I was amazed at the venom for Boise's fanbase. They didn't have a lot to say after Boise kicked their ass.

As soon as we get the home game and chant **** you Utah they will get extremely offended and begin a fan rivalry. Then over time the actual teams will buy in.
