JK Scott needs to be one of HCMM's first targets for the 2014 class. He could kickoff as a true freshman (replacing Castor, who graduates after 2013) and then be a combo P/K for 3 years after O'Neill and Oliver graduate.

Here's what Kohl's Kicking has to say about him (linked in profile):

JK attended the National Scholarship Camp in July of 2011 and showed very well in both kicking and punting for a 2014 athlete, he finished in the top 15 in his class in both FG and KO, his punting was solid. JK has continued to improve his form and his strength. He charted very well at the 2012 Western Showcase. JK is an athlete that hit punts in the 4.6-4.8 second hang times. He had huge UC Challenge, won Punting Competition and finsihed 2nd in KO Competition, Legit D1 combo k/p

Here's Christ Sailer's analysis, first as Kicker and then as Punter (linked in profile):

JK is the most talented all around kicker / punter in the Class of 2014. He has great size, strength, and natural ability. His best ball off the ground is untouchable. His kickoffs are D1 ready. And his best quality is his punting. JK is a sure fire scholarship player and one of the very best combo players that we have seen in years. OFFER NOW!!!

JK is one of the most gifted natural punter that we have ever seen. He has the size, strength, and talent to be a great college punter. He reminds me a lot of former #1 High School Punter Bryan Anger as a young high school punter. The sky is the limit. Also a big time kicker. JK is a phenomenal combo prospect. OFFER NOW!!!
 
Can he kick with both feet?

Couldn't resist. Actually now that we are thinning out some of the crowd we had under Hawkins might be time to start looking at our specialist again. If he is that good a punter he may be able to substantially help our defense as well and being able to do both gives us flexibility for the scholly.
 
He might challenge for the starting job vs. Oliver as a freshman as well. At least for longer FG's?

Wouldn't surprise me, Oliver looked like he slipped off last year as the season went along. Also wouldn't be hard for him to be our best option on KOs.
 
Wouldn't be a bad thing if he ended up like another Colorado product, Barry Helton
 
I am a big believer in special teams. Huge need. Don't let him go anywhere else. Difference makers on special teams are very rare.
 
I'd be surprised to see us not go after a "specialist" this year (most likely a walk-on)
 
Why not get the Norwegian guy? J/K. Of all positions, kickers have to be one of the toughest to evaluate, don't they? The difference between HS and college is pretty big.

I'd have to disagree. Kicker is one of the only positions that isn't directly impacted by the level of play of the other team. That makes it easier to compare a 1A kid to a 5A kid, etc.

Why? The ball is the same size, the uprights are still behind the end zone. Height, weight, and speed don't really matter.

Actually the college ball is slightly bigger and the uprights are closer together. One of the biggest differences is that high school kickers usually use a place kicking tee. I think I saw that he is already kicking off the ground which is great!

So many places use artificial turf now, so it's not as big of a deal.

It was definitely a necessity at my high school, since they kept the grass about four inches long. It would've almost been impossible to get that ball up out of the grass without a tee. That grass always pissed me off, as it made the game so much more tiring. Quite the contrast from the dirt packed practice fields.

Ah. I haven't seen a game on natural grass for quite a while.

Good point. I played on a field that made tackles for us. There was a combo of deep grass, sand pits, straight up dirt and sticker patches in good ol Brighton before they got field turf. The kicking pad/tee was a necessity. Although I loved the field. Haha
