If you've seen them both play, it's obvious Cody is the better quarterback though. After watching them both practice last Saturday, easy decision.
Not a huge shock there, but it is good to finally hear it from the coaches. Other than maybe pushing the players, I don't see a purpose in holding off making the decision. I am very psyched that this year's competition is about who is playing better and not who hasn't been screwing up as much lately.

That's good to see but unfortunately I don't think it means much without the freshmen on it. Hawk said in his pc that there were 20-25 fresh/rfresh that were going to be in the mix this year. That means a lot of the names are going to drop down/drop off that chart. Still nice to see a depth chart though. :thumbsup:
that is not a current chart. the word is that a current chart will be release after saturday's scrimmage.
i am glad they've pretty much picked a qb. let's get it on! i know i wear my black and gold sunglasses, but i think this team could actually be ok. not great, probably... but, ok... like maybe even bowl eligible...
Funny this comes out today. Last night I had a dream where Cody was awesome at throwing the football on the football field while I watched in the stands. If he's half as good at football in real life as he was at football in my dream, he's a lock for the Heisman this year. :thumbsup:

It also means were going to get our asses handed to us when these kids make mistakes. It sucks that we dont have any depth. Either way I had next year penciled in as the year we would start to turn the corner.

If you mean because as the coach's son he's been breathing the offensive system as long as he can remember, then I would say that, yes, that definitely gave him an advantage.
If you mean that there's some favoritism going on, I think you would be very wrong to think that.

I just realized that my post could not have sounded more gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but edited in any event.
it seems to me that mistakes are not limited to freshmen. sometimes seasoned veterans make them too.
and one mistake does not necessarily mean that our asses will be handed to us; an irritating progression of mistakes, maybe. but how many games have you watched in your lifetime have been mistake free?
Thats true. The problem is we have so many of them on the field right now. The QB, almost all of our WRs. We have some questions at RB. The OLine is untested. If I were an opposing DC I'd blitz us a lot and have my DBs play man and look for the INT or the fumble.
Emotionally I just cant invest myself in the Buffs like I used to until we become more consistant. I watch each week. I fly my flag. I root. But now I expect to be dissapointed and it comes true more than I like.
I really like Coach Hawkins. He's the first move we've made in a long, long time that I felt really good about. It's been a long time since Coach Mac left. I felt good about Neu but that didnt work out too well. I never liked GB but I warmed up to him after we beat NU and UT but I never really had a lot of confidence in him. I think were going in the right direction and I think next year or the year after were going to see some real results. This year, not so much. But I hope I am wrong. :smile2:

I think I am a little more optimistic about our prospects this year but I agree that with so many freshmen on the field it's inevitable that a game or two will get away from us this year just due to lack of experience. I also agree that next year is the year the B12 better "watch out" for our buffs. For this year I see us 6-6 or 7-5 with a really strong finish that will be a strong foreshadowing for '08.
I'll know more after the CSU and ASU games. We all will.

Would I put money on the Buffs if I were to go to Vegas? Sure, sports betting is odds based. Given that everybody expects us to suck more than I expect us to suck, the odds I'd get would be in my favor.
dude, we have not played a down of football, yet you label every last one of them a perpetual mistake? :wtf: i will give you that some of them are bound to make a mistake. but to suggest they are walking ****ups is a bit crass and it defies every piece of evidence from camp right now. but to each his own.

i am so proud to support the buffs, i am very busy right now with two buff projects - one of which is super secret but very goddamn time expensive. AGAIN this fall, casual friday = BUFFSTUFF BONANZA at school.
seriously. i fail to see a negative here. maybe it is because i choose to be happy and positive? or maybe because i find it statistically unlikely that we are going to commit one ****ing mistake after another. our fair share? sure. but damn you take things to extremes...
i think we are probably going to see some growing pains this year and i expect that us fans will all have several forehead-slapping "what was he thinking?" moments watching the Buffs this year. but, i still think they've got a chance to win a few games. it isn't a finely tuned machine yet, but maybe we are on our way. i really hope for at least 6 wins.
one more thing: as crappy as last year was, i still feel like we have more of a shot at an upset right now than i felt like we had the last couple of gb years. ****, everytime we faced an elite team in the last few gb years, i just felt like, in my heart, our Buffs were going to get pummelled (altho i rooted like crazy for them as always). after seeing CU almost beat an elite uga team on their field with no freaking offense, i have a bit of hope that CU can pull an upset here or there this year.

I simply meant that he's probably known the playbook for a lot longer than Nelson, and he's probably been working at it in the offseason with his dad helping him.
What dad wouldn't do that for their son? Sure Cody's earned the spot legitimately, but he's also been routed towards the inside track due to the fact that he has daily access to his father, the coach.
It's not favoritism, it's a loving father/son relationship.

With all of the youth I expect we will lose some games we shouldn't lose and win some we shouldn't win. One thing for sure, I don't see any games where the Buffs should be counted out - I expect them to play their asses off to the end in every contest.
Its going to be a fun year, regardless, watching them grow. There is no doubt in my mind that we are pointed in the right direction.
That's pathetic. Save your bandwagon-jumping for the goddamned U.

I actually agree with Miami except for his part of not investing himself into the buffs more. I have found that my buff pride and support has grown through the bad years and it is higher now than it was during the 90's (which is saying something coming from a former players son that has bled black and gold since I was born)..
As for mistakes, yes they are more common in freshmen, yes the freshmen will make mistakes, probably a lot, and probably more than seasoned veterans we will be facing. Will the freshmen learn from the mistakes? Yes, I see this team going through some growing pains and turning on late in the season, kind of similar to what Nebraska did in 2005. I also expect 2008 to be where Colorado really opens peoples eyes, but this year I do think we go bowling. There will be lots of mistakes and learning from then, I promise you that. It will be a fun season.
