When and if Hawk ever leaves, why not give Cabral the head job? I think he has definitely earned it, if not at CU, somewhere. Id be comfortable with that hire, thoughts??

My thoughts? I hope that when this happens, that Coach Cabral is 104 years old and senile (which would make Hawk 100) and is not considered for the job!:thumbsup:

Seriously, I love Coach Cabral, but the LAST thing we need to be talking about right now, is who will take over for Hawk some day. Let's just revel in the torment and agony of our fellow Big 12 schools who are starting each day with "dear Lord, please get me out of my current coach's contract!":smile2:

Geez it was just conversation, I know Hawk is our man. Im just sayin if Cabral is still here, he deserves a shot.

keep in mind that Cabral has been a position coach through four head coaches. While he is clearly a superb position coach, each of those coaches had the opportunity to place him in the coordinator role, some had multiple opportunities, and none ever did.

To me that might imply that those coaches thought he was at level in his current position.

I hear ya. I wasn't trying to be a wise a$$. I just remember the wailing and gnashing of teeth that went along with our last coaching search, and I'm not interested in going through that again any time soon. Let's let them enjoy their moment in the sun!

I wouldn't read too much in to that. He was also the assistant head coach (and may be now, too).

He was also the interim coach while GB was suspended over the whole Katie Hnida baloney. I think he'd make an outstanding head coach. His biggest problem is that he's an X&O guy, and not much of a glad hander, get into the community type of coach. A college head coach needs to be a little bit of a salesman, too.

I think that he was asst. head coach and interim HC by virtue of his seniority, not necessarily his skill set. I could be wrong, but I think it was actually Hankwitz that was made interim HC for the bowl game when it was up to Bohn to name the appointment. Also, he was a candidate for the Northern Colorado job that same year, and they chose to go another direction as well.

I hate the fact that it appears I'm slamming the guy, it just looks to me that he probably isn't hc material.

Yes, Hank was the interim after GB was fired, but during the time GB was suspended over his comments about Hnida being a "horrible kicker", Cabral was the acting head coach and was running spring drills.

Maybe UNC is lamenting their decision to go in a different direction now, too. Who knows? I think he'd make a good HC. I'd hate to see him go, he's coached a ton of great LB's here, but you never want to hold a guy back, either.
 
I don't think Cabral has any real desire to be a HC. I could be wrong, but to me he seems very content with what he's doing, and is doing a fantastic job of it.
 
I am waiting for Karl Dorrel to get canned at UCLA and then anticipate the reentry of Eric Bienemy back to the staff.

If you look at the performances of the guys EB has coached-- Chris Brown, Purify, Drew, and now Peterson, that has to be luck right? I mean a position coach can't have that big an influence on performance, can he?
 
I don't really have a problem with this type of conversation. This is what message boards are for! I think we all know this is just a hypothetical conversation.

Well, he's 51 right now.

Personally, I think 60 years old is about that cut off line where you are getting a little old to be taking over as a head coach.

So, how long will the Hawk be at CU?

I really don't know, but if it's less than 9 years and Cabral is still young enough, I think you evaluate him and make your decision. 1) I think he'd get a little special luvin' from the athletic department because he's an in house guy, and there'd be little to no transition as far as schemes. 2) Unless there is someone heads and tails better (like if the hoodie is ever looking for a job) then I think you go with him.

I don't really know a lot about Cabral other than the fact that every year CU seems to be putting yet ANOTHER linebacker into the NFL.
