College Football News, Rumor & Humor

Didn't see it mentioned but Charlotte at UNC was cancelled yesterday morning due to contact tracing at UNC-Charlotte. UNC is working to try and find an opponent for 9/26 since they have a bye then. Coastal Carolina is being mentioned as a possibility since they also have a bye next weekend and are only about 6 hours down the road.
I hope Coastal Carolina can throw a wrench into someone else’s season.

But yes, just open it up and let them play. It's all a big to do about nothing.

Just get things back to normal and we will be okay.

That would have really been the smart thing to do.

So how will they convince those kids that Jackson, MS is quite the place to be.

If they really had that staff in place, I think there would be a powerful message to black kids in the south that you can come to an HBCU at a time in our nation's history where it could make a huge statement and a huge difference for the community. You won't play Alabama or Ohio State or USC on a regular basis, but you'll be heavily promoted based upon the coaches we have here, and they all have great ties to the NFL for when it's time to go pro. You could be the trail blazers of a mass movement of great players coming to HBCUs instead of attending schools that are 80-90 percent white making billions of dollars for 80-90 percent old white guys on the back of your talents. Football is king in the south, and you guys could completely turn the power structure on its head.

It would be similar to the message Howard University used to land a top hoops recruit earlier this year: https://theundefeated.com/features/...er-chooses-howard-in-a-game-changer-for-hbcus. Maker wants to be the first of many top recruits choosing HBCUs instead of Kentucky or Duke.

Not saying it would be an easy pitch. You'd have to convince 17 and 18 year olds to make a really hard choice. But, Deion Sanders has the type of name recognition and personality that he just might be able to make it work.

tangent to the virus discussion.

talking w/ dad about the financial impact of losing most of a college football season, it came out that 30% of schools don't provide health insurance as part of athletic scholarships. this includes some big names like Wisconsin.

i'm shocked by this. i really think that has to limit their recruiting to students who are covered by parent's health insurance.

Good take,

I wonder what would happen (no indication that this is part of their plan) if they changed the whole view of it to be able to tell these kids that they aren't going to be exploited like at the big schools. This would mean a real effort at 100% graduation, at insuring that the kids, go pro or not, have a real future and won't just become another used up athlete sitting around remembering the glory days.

For Black kids coming out of schools systems which aren't oriented toward college preparation and especially those that are for practical purposes segregated schools a place like a HBCU could be sold as the best chance to escape that world.

Rondale Moore opts back into the season for Purdue. I wonder if we see Sewell and Lenoir for Oregon or Walker Little opt back in if/when the Pac 12 makes it official.

Too bad Nebraska isn't visiting Michigan this year...they can munch away and enjoy the alternative reality of 62-36 never happening.

Ducks get one of their stars back. I highly doubt it considering he's already a likely top 5 pick, but wonder if Sewell will reconsider

Going to be interesting to track Delta this week. LSU hosts Missouri and Ole Miss hosts Bama on Saturday.

Delta is supposed to hit Louisiana early Friday morning sometime after 1 a.m.
Looks like the early track has it going east of Baton Rouge so that area wouldn't get the typical right side worst part of the storm.
