Games thread- Men's bball scheduled to host WSU (Wed., 1/27, 7:00 PM MT, ESPNU) & Utah (Sat., 12:30 MT, Pac 12 Networks)

my dad always used to say "it's tough to hold a big lead against a good team". Any team in the Pac is "good" and I'm not surprised that after being up 15 at the half, we only won by 12.

Wazzu has the look of a young talented roster, while I took most of what Adrian Branch (color commentator last night) had to say as ill prepared fluff; I do think he was right in that this Wazzu team has a lot of good young talent that could grow into a team that is near the top of the conference when they are all Juniors and Seniors. He compared this season to Kin and Schwartz's freshman season.

All but 19 minutes were played by Freshmen / Sophomores last night for Wazzu.

Jackson, Bamba, and Willilams all looked good already. Abogidi looks very, very raw, but like he could be a force in a couple of seasons.

Their collective minutes have been pretty sparse (less than 150 total).

I could be incorrectly recalling this, but it seems to me that LOB and Nique seem to play primarily, if not strictly on the wing. Tristan is used in the post some. LOB/Nique seem to be playing more of the 2/3 position and Tristan more of the 3/4.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Basically Tristan is taking Strating's minutes behind Battey/Horne/Walker/Walton, and LOB/Nique are there to fill in behind D'Schawn/Eli/Maddox/Kee.

All three look totally unready TBH. This is why it's critical to get in at least two very solid transfers for next year.

That roster has a 7th in conference ceiling maximum. Let's not get all gooey over that group because the Buffs took their foot off the gas and a D-Team color guy had to fill time in what was a basically a non-contest.

It is based on position depth.

Da Silva is basically getting the Strating minutes that Horne & Walker haven't taken.

The other guys are the minutes available after Schwartz & Daniels.

Disagree. We came out way over-confident. MW had 3 unforced TOs in the 1st 3 or 4 minutes, one being a totally unathletic pass behind the back. Tad is a nice guy. When he lectures the team at halftime to not let up, they space him out. We started garbage the 1st 5 minutes and then saw we were getting in trouble and had to fight. Remember they were missing their MVP.

Appreciate that we can disagree agreeably
 
WSU wanted it more to start the 2nd half.

It's hard to play with a lead.

Most games, teams come back. Usually they don't come back to win. WSU didn't get it closer than a 3 possession game, iirc. So kind of a "meh" thing that's not worth getting worked up over (unless you're Tad).

Yeah I see that side of the argument for sure. I just think maybe we could steal a few minutes and go small.

BOULDER — Halfway through the Pac-12 season, the Colorado Buffaloes (13-4, 7-3) find themselves in third place in the league standings — well within striking range of league-leading UCLA — and a favorable schedule down the home stretch.

The question is whether the Buffs can take advantage of the schedule and make their regular season finale — at home against the Bruins — one with championship implications on the line.

But looking 10 games into the future is not a formula for success. As CU coach Tad Boyle pointed out Friday afternoon, one of the oldest cliches in sports rings true: "It's just taking care of business one game at a time."

That starts with Saturday's 12:30 p.m. tipoff against Utah at the CU Events Center (Pac-12 Networks), the second game of a five-game homestand. The Buffs will then wrap up their longest conference homestand in program history next week with three games in five days: Arizona State on Thursday, Arizona on Saturday and Oregon State on Monday.

SCOUTING THE UTES: Utah is 6-7 overall and 3-6 in the Pac-12 and will be playing its third straight road game. Utah averages just under 70 points per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field. The Utes lead the Pac-12 in assists (16.1 apg) and rank second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3) and third in free throw shooting (.751). Utah allows 66.7 points per game while opponents are shooting 42.6 percent.

Junior forward Timmy Allen leads Utah at 16.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Senior guard Alfonso Plummer averages 12.9 points and ranks fifth in the Pac-12 at 2.2 3-pointers made per game. Sophomore forward Mikael Jantunen averages 9.1 points and 4.2

rebounds while shooting 64.9 percent from the field. Sophomore guard Rylan Jones tops the Utes in assists at 4.3 per game. Jones ranks second in the Pac-12 in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.5).

WRIGHT STUFF: Colorado point guard McKinley Wright IV is now just 18 rebounds away from becoming the first player in Pac-12 history to score at least 1,600 points, grab 600 rebounds and hand out 600 assists.

Wright currently has 1,622 ponts, 600 assists and 582 rebounds.

BROADCAST: Saturday's game will be televised by the Pac-12 Network with Drew Goodman and Sed Bonner. KOA 850 AM and 94.1 FM will carry the radio broadcast with Mark Johnson and Scott Wilke.

I'm having an issue with Sling where they only have the regional Pac channels and not the main network...so I can't watch the f****** game – anyone else having this issue?

Yes I had the same issue. But the game is on mountain even though it's not listed.

It's supposed to be on the Mountain Channel. Is it not on there?
 
thanks all for the Sling tip, they had the Oregon vs Utah women's game listed – Larry Scott and the Pac-12 Network, the gift that keeps on giving
