Official realignment thread - SEC formally invites OU and Texas to join the conference in 2025

The ACC faces sinking into obscurity? Wtf?
A number of teams that have historically been their flagships are not guaranteed to continue at that level. FSU has been a national power, now? Miami is up and down, not likely to return to the U days. Clemson is down this year, where do they go.

And if the SEC takes the top off the conference where are they?

ACC has some quality programs but as college football become more stratified they are in a hard position.

Notre Dame aside, the ACC as a conference is well positioned but their problem is the media deal with ESPN runs thru 2036.
I've thought for a while that creating a Pac-ACC alliance would make a ton of sense.

Academically aligned, similar emphasis on sports other than football, disadvantaged by geography for different reasons (Pac is isolated from most of the US population while ACC takes 2nd place to SEC or B1G across its footprint or even shares with Big East outside of football).

I'd love to see PACN become a national PAC-ACC Network with scheduling partnerships that enriched both of their national media deals.

If Notre Dame joins the ACC, that would put its USC and Stanford rivalry games into the deal. Pac would need to go to 16 to match and, because hoops would be so important in this alliance, there would be no reason not to make UNLV and KU 2 of the teams (maybe with Houston & SMU).

Sure they need FSU, VT and Miami to return to form. Clemson has transformed into a national brand but they need to bounce back from this down year (for them) or else that will be short-lived. And there are other schools with great football tradition but that doesn't mean a whole lof if you're irrelevant in this era. Pitt is having a very nice year but can they win out?

But yea, if the ACC were to lose a couple top football programs to the SEC or B1G and they don't land ND then yea, they would fall to where the Big XII is headed post-OU/UT.

I think the chances of Clemson bouncing back are good. They have decided as a school that they want to win big and are willing to make the commitments (financial and otherwise) needed to be elite.

I am surprised that FSU hasn't come back. They have been one of those programs willing to do what is needed to win, are they still willing to do that.

Miami was a do anything it take to win program but they are a private school that may not want to make those commitments or to take some of the reputation hits they took when they did.

VT has had some good cycles but don't think they have even been seen as a national power type program.

It amazes me too that FSU continues to be so down. Even schools with relatively recent high-level success like Florida and USC who are down by their standards have managed to win 8-10 games per season for the most part.

Miami is too worried trying to make their football team into choir boys. When their program was dominant they were badasses and they knew it.

Weirdest thing with FSU is that it wasn't like they went into a funk in that "tough to replace a legend" period post-Bowden. They actually got better & Jimbo won a natty - then it collapsed from there. I can't begin to explain it.

Miami has chosen to stop being Miami & compounded it with new violations and a stupid stadium decision which makes it hard for students to go to games.

Yes to all of that

FSU snagged more 5 star recruits than any other program for a long stretch. The last five years, I believe they’ve landed zero, with lots of coaching misfires. They’ll climb out of the hole eventually. Miami is the one that seems to be more challenged long term.

Keep hearing rumors that Miami has some powerful alumni/boosters who don't want to be a win at all cost football factory anymore. Some still do but the full commitment isn't there.

On the contrary haven't heard any of that about Florida State. They are willing to spend the money and they are willing give the football program the leeway it needs to be successful. Somehow they have struggled trying to make it happen.

Both programs have seen talent siphoned away with the rise of the SEC, but yes, the narrative is that Miami is deemphasizing football, which certainly seemed to be the case with Donna Shalala. They simply don’t admit the players they used to sneak in. They're basically a 0.500 team for a while now.

There are 3 teams in the watered down aac called the Owls.

That seems like a lot.
SEC has three tigers.

Tbf I'm pretty sure "tiger" is the most common mascot in all of college football, "owl" less so.

In Temple's case it's because they were originally a night school - wondering what the story is for the other owls.

There are a lot of bright people at Rice. Maybe they're wise.

Add Southern Miss to the Sun Belt. Marshall is not far behind. With ODU & JMU to the Sun Belt, that means 9 C-USA teams have punched their ticket out of the conference.

That leaves:

UTEP
Louisania Tech
MTSU
FAU
WKU

C-USA Commissioner said two teams are interested and didn't say if they were from FBS or FCS.

Read the slide deck, don't buy it.

Remember this is Baylor, the school who tried to do everything they could including dumping on CU to get included in a potential move to the PAC. They have a real and founded fear that if the B12 falls apart as current members go other directions that they will be left behind, and in fact they will.

Even if the B12 manages to stay one of the A5 conferences there is no guarantee that they will continue to share in the financial benefits of being part of the top end of college football. If the B12 effectively dissolves and is reconstituted as including a bunch of current G5 programs Baylor stands to lose tens of millions of dollars per year.

They can talk all they want about academic rankings and culture and everything else. Despite their flashy powerpoint I have zero question that if adding Boise would keep Baylors conference payout close the $30+ million per year instead of the sub $10 million per year the MWC and other G5 conferences pay they would be able to produce a highly convincing slide presentation justifying the inclusion of Boise.
I dont love it but Baylor and TT *might* add some value to the P12 by playing in a valuable recruiting market with a big audience. Given Baylors (cheating) success in football and basketball in the last decade the school has something to offer. Limited. But something. And the Pac12 is heathen libtarded conference could use some of that.

We need Tough Tiger to make an appearance. Tough as rain.
