He has put on about 30 lbs. since he was swithced to the O-Line. :thumbsup:

The knock on him switching was not his talent or ability but him being light for the position. He could still put on a few pounds but I think we have our bookend tackles for the foreseeable future. Another interesting note from yesterday is that Miller was taking snaps at LT and Solder was at RT. This is flip flopped from spring ball. I suspect they are just making sure that each guy can man both tackle position and want to see how Miller handles LT and vice versa

Yup. Co. Daily says the coaches are trying each out at either position and will solidify who's on the right and whose on the left in about 10 days. Was listening to local radio yesterday re the UCLA camp and they were all laughing at how small the UCLA O-Line is. I couldn't help but laugh. Good luck with that Neu-weasel. To bad about Fataagi but the coaches said he was not distiguishing himself in spring ball anyway. Now we need to see what Mad Max can do. He is a biggin too. :thumbsup:

Not that there is anything wrong with that.
It just goes to show you that recruiting services often miss on guys. Nate Solder is from Buena Vista, CO. The coaches saw his size and figured they could coach him up. That's exactly what's happened. Nobody else was even looking at the guy. He played 2A ball or something like that.
Also, he played TE in high school. That position is underutilized at the high school level, so it can be very hard to project a player to the next level.
That one always amazed me. Why does a HS coach take a guy who's 6'8" and make him a tight end? :huh: I guess he has pretty decent hands, but jeez. I think the CU coaches are doing what's best for him in the long run. He has a legit shot at an NFL career if he can learn the LT or RT position. He'd never be an NFL tight end.
Perhaps because his team needed his pass-catching ability in addition to his blocking ability?
I am guessing the coach thought a 6'8" tightend would be tough to cover and less of a blocking liability than his back up who was probably 6'2" 195.

Didn't he also play b-ball in HS? I think that's right. Seems a natural move - here's a guy who continued to grow, but has good feet and body control. It's just a matter of if he could get big enough to be effective on the interior line. Seems so, eh?

I love the idea of teaching players multiple positions, even if its positions that are not relevant to offense or defense like DS at punter or Solder back at TE. Whether they use them there or not is a different story but having the option to put them there can give a defense/special teams nightmares.
