2025 Spring Football

I do think it is a bit early to retire his number but I also think that without even considering the link to his father as coach he deserves the consideration.

He did win the Unitas, he was also 1st team all conference and the B12 offensive player of the year.

In two years at CU (for those talking Bo Nix he only spent one at Oregon) Shedeur has planted himself at or near the top in every significant statistical catagory for both single season and career.

I do recognize the importance of him and his brother being here in CU having their dad as our coach. Prime likes money but he's got plenty of it, he's coaching because it is what he wants to do. It is unfair though to think of Shedeur and his dad as a single unit. Had his dad decided to just be his kid's dad and not coach (still providing guidance and connections) I think it would be fair to expect that we would still be seeing Shedeur listed as one of if not the top QB going into this draft.

I was young but I got to see Bobby Anderson play at CU.

It's worth keeping in mind that in those days a college QB was more often an additional RB in the backfield who occassionaly threw the football. Most college programs were considered wide-open if they threw the ball 20 times a game and many had passing schemes that would look simple compared to what many high schools run now. Bobby as a QB was mostly a runner who to direct snaps from the center. He was a great athlete though.
Are we going to retire a number every time a player breaks significant records (I get the Unitas and All-conference stuff, but there’s players that were surrounded by a better team that had better team success)? If so, let’s retire Spruce’s 23.

If you cant tell the difference between Spruce and Shedeur, you should probably find a new team to cheer for.

I thought that CU quit "retiring" numbers a few years ago.

Now your name and number go up in the stadium, but the numbers are not actually retired from use.

As people have noted, we'd run out of numbers pretty fast.

Did Spruce set the majority of records at his position? How about this, did Spruce (or any other player in Buff history besides 2 and 12) personally give/donate NIL money to numerous players on the team? 2's presence was not just on the field. I don't see a need for folks to 💩 on 2, this was RG (Shedeur didn't orchestrate or recommend this). I get folks from the outside looking in being confused, but those of us with knowledge of the collective value he brought to CU matters. In only two years he departs(I would say) in the top 20 of all-time greats at CU, maybe top 10 and his stats say he is best QB in CU history. Crazy that his name is being dragged. It seems if you don't like the take, you would guide your frustration with RG.

Cause he's so short?

Neither did Shedeur or Shiloh, but…you know.

No rich kid has ever decided to go somewhere and decline a school out of the good of their heart.
I've never really understood fully why really rich players like the Sanders kids, or the Mannings, seemingly never pass on the scholarship to make the teams they played for better.

I guess it doesn't matter any more.

What percentage of really rich people do you think cash and keep their social security checks?

Almost all of them.

Part of the mentality is that they will take advantage of everything they have earned or are entitled to. I say this without judgement in any way. Personal decision imho.

Now that ncaa rules mean almost nothing this is probably no longer a thing, but at one point non-scholarship players couldn't receive the same access to nutritionists, diet management, etc, etc, which meant there was a need for them to actually be on scholarship.

I am in an understanding phase of this jersey retirement after Prime spoke, So many angles

#1 = We need a WRITTEN POLICY that is followed
#2 = Prime can do whatever he wants while he is our coach, especially the top paid of all time
#3 = We have been derelict on treating former players properly
#4 = Any press is good press

Cash walked on and proved he could play with B12. He was average. I didn't see him blowing any snaps on the regular and I didn't see him blowing open running lanes either. CP recruited over him as he should have. Cash made the decision that he would like to play football and therefore is going to head out to a better opportunity for himself. If he wants to play, he would be better served to drop down a level. Maybe we will recruit him back to CU as a 5th year Grad Transfer. Ya never know.

I see Cash as very little difference from Charlie. Great kid, great work ethic, good for the culture. Although Cash can actually be put in and play and be ok. I think he is worthy of a scholly.
