2025 Spring Football

I also just saw something slick that Prime put in the Ethos.
Stay at Colorado, Play great Football and rack up All-American Awards and you might get rewarded with Ring of Fame, or Jersey Retirement. Motivation. Jordan Seaton can be on that path
We might run out of numbers...looking forward to it!

If correct that CC asked for a scholly and was denied, I agree with him leaving. Why didn't he just say why he was going.

this a bad reflection on CP and Co. Walk ons Offerdahl and the guy before the spring game get them, but not CC? makes no sense, seems just wrong and mean-spirited. You turn down CC but give 1 to Finnesteh two days later. Feels like there must be more to it.

This partial scholarship malarkey does not add up?
The roster limit is supposed to be 105 and EVERYONE will be scholarship because otherwise there is no consistency with basic revenue sharing.

Roster limit is 105 and everyone CAN be on scholarship if the program chooses. Rev sharing is at the program's discretion w/r/t which players they decide to pay and which ones they don't.

Prime stated that he likes to have extra scholarships available in case a kid hits the portal last minute. . . he's always leveraging, which I agree, didn't necessarily need to be brought up in Ben's recognition speech to the team. He's unapologetically transparent but that moment could have used a little more couth.

I realized Juju was 17 when he showed up. I guess I didn’t realize he still is and will be 17 into the fall, I believe I heard.

That’s really young to play P4 ball. This is where the old system—perhaps—was better for the players: he would—likely—not have hit campus til next year, and then have his clock begin to run, with a RS year even, once he’s 18-19. I guess he will be 18 when he plays in actual games? Of course, you take a talented, top H.S. QB whenever you get him, and he clearly wants to be at the college level.

Sure, he’s a super poised and mature kid, but 17 is…17 … with…what…24/25 year olds now playing with the new juco rule?

I’m pumping the brakes on any expectations I might have had for him to start this season. Incredible if he can. I hope Salter can get himself focused.

I think once this new CFB shakes out, players will get 5 full years of eligibility, and there will be no need for a redshirt. Heck, the players could negotiate for 6 full years

I agree. I’m actually a bit stoked about the idea that College Football can be it’s own destination, as there is finally real money flowing to players. If they can have a 5 year career with significant pay, there’s no need to rush to the NFL. Only a few make it from each team, anyway,

Eww

People getting paid for their labor. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
It’s not that, it’s giving guys five or even six seasons worth of eligibility.

College football isn’t a job.

Play your 4 years. Make your money. Get your degree, get out. Give other guys a chance to get paid.

Better to compromise and make it a firm 5 years so that the redshirt is not challenged in court, and injury exceptions can be eliminated. Everything now is minimizing legal challenges

He likely won't start, but we should all prepare ourselves for a two QB system in 2025.

Don't normally cross-post, but I thought folks might be interested in the Xs and Os breakdown we did re: the CU spring game and that it might start a conversation over here on Xs and Os.... https://buffsblog.com/

Great article, here is a teaser if anyone is unsure if they want to to read….

The 155-pound slot receiver is as slippery as a fart in a skillet, and is going to make a lot of plays this fall for CU.

I don't agree that college football isn't a job: college football players do FAR more work and are subject to far more requirements than I ever had in college: additional meetings, workouts, trips, study, all before even stepping foot on the field. Most jobs follow from having had a prior job, certainly a prior level of a job.

It's not that different from college student working on a ROTC scholarship. That's also a job they work and commit to in order to get a scholarship. But they absolutely have requirements that are work beyond simply being a college student. It's just a job that's required to get the next job.

Whether it's 4 or 5 years of eligibility, doesn't really matter to me. The rush to get a freshman on the field is theoretically less when he can RS his first year, without losing eligibility. Same for injuries.

My saying it’s not a job is in response to calling college ball its own destination.

I've never really understood fully why really rich players like the Sanders kids, or the Mannings, seemingly never pass on the scholarship to make the teams they played for better.

I guess it doesn't matter any more.
Back in the day you couldnt refuse the scholarship. If you played you had to be on scholly. That was a long time ago I imagine. Not sure when it changed

maybe I don't understand this set of posts, so you are saying walk ons never played because they couldn't? that's not at all correct.

I don't have a problem with shedeur and shilo on scholly at CU but I get the original idea maybe the Sanders family would open a couple up. not moralizing, it's up to them.

That’s my understanding, too.

Also, we have never been up against the scholarship limit under Coach Prime. Don’t think we’ve ever even had 80 scholarships, much less 85.
