Who is the best head coach in the Big 12?
I'd like to say Dan the man Hawkins, but the jry is still out on that notion. I will have to say Stoops. I was there when he got to OU and saw him turn that program around in as little as 2 years. Competed for an WON a MNC on his SECOND year! I dont waht his predecessors did, that's tough to do. Only 2 seasons where he's won less than 10 games. So as far as the Big XII goes, I think he's the best coach.
yep, my reasoning as well. Also 6 Big 12 titles out of 9 years.:wow:
Mack Brown gets better talent than anybody in the confrence including OU, yet UT has only been to 3 Big 12 title games.
Nobody compares to Stoops.
In terms of what, cheating? He's the only Big 12 coach who can rival the boys in the SEC for "bending" the rules, more than a little.![]()
He didn't have to recruit squat but a decent JC QB, when he arrived, John Blake left him a very full cupboard. And he has since drawn from the same huge talent base as Mack Brown, only w/o using a modicum of scruples.
He does get good assistants, but his best choices(Leech, Mangino, lil' bro Mike) were from his days at KSU.
Aside from his one "cheap" NC, he's lost what, six consecutive BCS bowls?
I'll go with Mangino the Hutt! To date, he's done more with much less than Stoops has on his worst day! (Give Hawk the same time---to recover from the disaster that was GB---that Magino has had, and I think we'll say the same thing about Hawk!)
I go with Stoops as well, and OU has actually finished ahead of Texas 3-4 times in recruiting rankings in the last 10 years or so.
The guy I'm interesting in seeing this year is Briles at Baylor. Very possible they may go bowling this year.
I'm not on the Baylor bandwagon at all. I think they go 2-2 in the non-conference (losing to Wake Forest and Syracuse). Then they go 1-7 in-conference (beating only Iowa State). After going 3-9, everyone says "same old Baylor" and their recruiting class falls apart.
First of all Baylor doesn't play Syracuse.
Second, Baylor has one of the most dangerous QB's in Griffen. He is for real.
Third. Baylor had 3 close calls last year that could have put them into bowl eligibility.
They lost by 3 to Connecticut on the road. They lost by 3 to Mizzou, and they lost by a TD at Texas Tech.
Brain fart. I meant to type Connecticut. :wow:
As far as the rest, we'll see. Griffen's an impressive athlete, but I still don't know that he's a great QB. Still young and there's way too much relying on him.
If he does turn the program around, I hope he stays at Baylor. I know it probably won't happen but a good Baylor squad would be great for the B12.It will be very interesting to watch Briles. One of his primary strengths is that he has VERY deep ties with tons of Texas High School coaches. I don't see him staying at Baylor long term, if they win, but I also don't see him running for a Pac-10 job. He's a very good coach who is going to get a lot of offers if he succeeds at a place like Baylor.
I think we'll see how good Pinkel is this year.interesting not a single vote for Pinkel or Leach. two guys who have had considerable success.....and certainly more than their predecessors. MU was ranked #1 for a week. but, they wet the bed against KU the last two years of the "Chase Daniel" era....which seems to be par for Pinkel.
I still can't believe A&M hired Sherman. I don't see him turning that program around.i could see Briles leave Baylor for A&M.
i could see Briles leave Baylor for A&M.
I think we'll see how good Pinkel is this year.
