My wife had a great idea. Tommy Tuberville is out of job and is available. Any job is better than no job, and the longer he sits out the less chance of him getting a new gig. He has had proven success in the SEC, and knows how to run a program, and will be given way more leeway at CU than he had from the boosters at Auburn. It would be pure win!! Plus it would give us an 'in' into SEC country recruiting.

Chris Wilson, the guy can flat out coach. Buffson predicted we would suck based on what he saw of practices. You get better on the practice field period. No heart and soul on the practice field as in the days when he played.

Shanahan
Gruden
Gill
Bieniemy
Tuberville


There is only one name I can think of that would be worse than Hawk right now and should never be uttered again: Tyrone Willingham.

If somehow, some way, he even enters realistic discussion, I will be burning my student ID.

I've been looking around the web and around these forums trying to find some analysis of what the current CU coach is doing wrong.

Can't find much except for criticism of his w/l record at CU.

What is he doing wrong as a coach?

I admit to wondering if the problems are much deeper than the coach. He's proven himself to be a fine coach.

At Nebraska the problems were deeper than the coaching staff. I'm guessing the same is true of many other teams around the NCAA that seem to have spiraled down after showcasing their great program over the years.

He's not recruiting well, he makes questionable coaching decisions, he sits his best recruits on the bench while playing walk-on's with no speed, and runs an offense that goes horizontal more than vertical. Those would be my main problems with Hawk..

A good start would be the incoherent game plans, poorly prepared teams and blatant nepotism which will have lasting reprecusions for at least a few years after Cody is gone. Other issues include an inability to make in-game adjustments, running off talented players (see: Kai Maiava) for no reason and an overall arrogance which has manifested itself by him telling Joel Klatt that he can't have an opinion because he has never coached.

i would like tommy bowden. those idiots at clemson made a huge mistake by firing him. he picked them up out of the dirt and brought them to national prominence and then they suddenly got big headed and thought the guy who brought them there suddenly wasn't good enough anymore.

but what we need is a coach "that knows how to do this thing". but not one that just constantly yells that out but doesn't actually know anything. we need a coach that can develop talent and properly gameplan at a high school level or higher. we need a coach that is dedicated to the running game, this is the strength of colorado and of the colorado high schools. that is what the top colorado prospects know how to do and it doesn't make sense to bring them here just to force them into a complicated passing scheme that doesn't make sense. i would much rather have a coach that knew how to recruit local talent along with texas and california than someone who "recruits all over the country". that's not something to brag about when you are only getting 2 or 3 stars from across the country. it's a waste of time. that time could have been used to rebuild a solid recruiting pipeline into texas. hawkins recruiting strategy was just like his game day strategy. desperate, fundamentally flawed, directionless

He tries to live vicarously through his slow, weak armed, blind son who is no field general and definatley NOT another coach on the field.

The Hack family is causing great damage to this program. Not the same as barnett did with the scandal that wasnt, but a didfferent kind of damage in that no bluechip recruit will want to come when the best they can hope for is the ride the pine.

I would like Coach MAC to come out retirement ( total pipe dream);
then in this order,
Tuberville, Mellenhall, Kragthorpe, Bienemy, Farichild (not going to happen he's a lamb), and I'll think of a few more as I look around more.

Bohn better be doing the same.

A few posters on Nutbuffs mentioned that he said it on Wednesday on the radio. Sorry no link. Perhaps others can verify.

I heard your kid interviewed on the radio by the non-coach, Joel Klatt. You shoud be proud, as I know you are. He is a very articulate young man. :thumbsup:
 
I think sometimes the best new coaches are the young, hungry ones that haven't had the chance to be HC.

Once you're established, it's too costly to hire them away.

Do a thorough research process and hire the best person for the job. We have several weeks to do the work, and it's work that needs to be done.

yep. csu found someone who can make improvements with a bad team. no reason Cu cant do it too
 
Although I am not ready to concede Hawk yet, if we were in a coaching search at the end of the season then my vote would be Will Muschamp.

The only other guy I can think of is who is an ex-CU player in coaching is David Gibbs.. played on the 90 national championship team..

I believe he's in the NFL now.

Why?

The goal should be to hire the best possible person for the job within your budget IMHO...

There is no reason CU is not a desirable program to coach at. One of the most beautiful cities in the country, a mostly rich college football tradition with previous national championship teams, a place where Heisman winners have played, and playing in a powerhouse BCS conference....

Because Bohn is going to have to appease donors / alums with the next hire. He already took a flyer on a guy with absolutely no ties to the program - and look at where it got him.
 
CU lacks institutional and social support for the football program. Until they get that back (if ever), they will continue to be mediocre, and they won't be able to bring in real coaching talent.

CU the institution needs to make a commitment to winning football games. That takes $ for a coach and $ for facilities.

I see where you're coming from and used to feel that way, but not any more.

I think the best way to appease donors/alums is to get CU back on the national stage where they belong.

If that happens through a coach with CU ties, then all the better.

But I'd rather take the coach that can get CU to prominence over one mired in mediocrity if it means hiring outside the CU family.

Hawkins inability to get it done at CU has nothing to do with his prior lack of ties to the program and everything to do with being a mediocre coach at best...

Hawks resume at the time of the hire led many to believe(including me) that he would be a success here.
