Just an honest question. What is the purpose of the player groups and what is the supposed advantage?

I also think it's working great!
Philosophically, the idea is that some guys are better at running some plays than others. An obvious example would be that B-Lock is better suited to a counter sweep than he is to an Iso up the middle. The personnel groups basically take that situational substitution concept to another level to where there is almost a mini-offense around each skill guy (or group of skill guys).

IMO, I think the groupings work with a young and inexperienced team. But I honestly thought the concept would've been gone by now.

That's only what we want them to think. But come Nebraska, they're going to actually give the ball to Scott and let him run it. That'll **** them up, for sure.

The player groupings are most likely another one of Hawkins' stupid ideas. Did anyone think that the opposing defensive coaches figure out what plays are usually run with certain player groupings and then coach their defense to be ready for it? Of course they do.
Furthermore, did anyone notice that the player groupings don't include a change at quarterback? I wonder why? What a pile of bull****. It didn't work last year and it didn't work on Sunday.

The first thing Coach Mac would do if he were asked to step in to any coaching vacancy would be to establish a legitimate depth chart with rankings and everything.

Player groupings are cutting edge here buddy, you wouldn't know though because you're not a coach. In the near future teams will do without "Starters", instead they'll just list every player of a position in a "Player Grouping". Everyone is happy when they're listed in a Grouping and get 1 carry a game.
Which is why Joel Klatt has no clue as to what it is.

Yes, Joel is a stand up guy. And his analysis of the running game that got him a snide, smart*** response from Hawkins was right on.
But of course, Joel never played for Hawkins, so his analysis of what Hawkins does is useless. (dripping sarcasm intended).
