Is the WV game the make or break of our season?

If CU can find a way to win in morgantown we are sitting at 2-2 heading into conference play.

We lose at texas but a win at home vs kansas would put us at 3-3 with k-state, mizzou, a&m and iowa state the next 4.

Much depends on how they play vs WV but a win vs WV and I think this team goes to a bowl. Lose and it's over and done with.
 
Actually I think there are 3 options for the game on Thursday.

1. We win convensing - builds confidence and we have the confidence to go 6-2 is the way out.

2. We barely win/lose - since we would basically be in the same boat as we are today as far as what we know about the team we might go 4-4 the rest of the way.

3. Get blown out - Out with the Old, In with the..... Who Knows!?!

I don't know if it makes or breaks the season but a loss puts CU in the position of going 5-3 in the Big 12 in order to go to any bowl.

Today I doubt that CU would be favored in any of their remaining games. KSU and ISU might get a slight nod on their home field given CUs bad road record in recent years.

I just want to see the Buffs play good solid football and compete for a win.
 
I woulnd't say it is make or break. If we win and then lose the rest of the games this season the season is a failure. If we lose and then win the rest of the games this season, the season is a success.

I would, however, contend that if we get blown out it is a pretty good sign that this team is not going to make much headway as far as improvement goes as the season drags on.
 
It is a important game. I just don't think it's a "make or break" game. Hawkins will get his full year imo.

I also would love to see Cody sit and give the nod to Hansen. I think this would give Hawkins, not only a better chance at winning, but a little slack with the fans. Do any of you agree with that?
 
I think it is. They need a big win sooo bad. It has been a year since they have had a half decent win which was against these same Mountaineers. If they can show enough improvement especially offensively against a good defence then we should have a chance against KU, ISU, A&M, KSU and MU.
I dont think we win this one though...actually I think we get blown out. This team is done and will underperform as long as Hawkins keeps running the show.

Yes I agree but unless cody gets tebowed, hansen will not play and no, I don't want cody to get tebowed. I guess all I can say is,we'll see.

I agree with the first part and am still pondering the second part of your post.
 
Our season is already broken, this game might be superglue, or it might be a turd sand-ich.
 
I almost did a thread on something similar to this.

I think the next three games makes or breaks the season.


1. We could look great and win all three....5% chance this happens


2. We could be competitive in all three, win one, limp along and finish about 6 - 6.....my worry if this happens is Hawk keeps the job and we "enjoy" one more season with little Hawk as starter.


3. We are competitive in spurts, lose all three finish 3 - 9 or 4 - 8 and have a bigger mess than we already have on our hands because we let Hawk hang around the whole season blowing any chance at a decent recruiting cycle among other things.....this is the worst scenario to me


4. We are badly out played both in speed and muscle in all three in a rout and have to find a way to thank Hawk for cleaning up the program but tell him it's time to hit the road and don't be upset when he sees his son carrying a clipboard on the sidelines next season....most likely to happen

I already have my predictions

WVU 42 to 17....too much speed
UT 55 to 14....too much everything, watch for little Hawk to throw multiple picks in this one
KU 38 to 10....too much power and Buff Killer Reesing.
 
I think that if we get blown out, the team will lose respect for Hawk and lose focus. A blowout loss would doom the season for sure, if it isn't already.

A tough fight ending in a loss where we can say, "Man, we just missed this play and/or that play or we would have won" might result in keeping the kid's focus and provide further motivation.

A win, any kid of win, could fill the kids with emotion and launch them into the Big XII with renewed conficence.

No, I think KU is the make or break game of the season. Even the administration admits they expected to lose WVU and UT going into the season. And let's face it, optimism and black and gold colored glasses aside, looking at things realistically, we face a HARD uphill climb to come out of this with even a close win.

If we do win, I think it's a launching pad to bigger things. If we lose, but play hard I really don't think it says that much. Of course, if they look like they looked against CSU or Toledo, that says a lot and it isn't good.

KU is expected to win the North, or NU, and they're coming in to our field. If they show progress the next couple of games, KU should be tight, but winnable. It's a game that last two years teams would have, and DID lose. If this team is improving, they'll find a way to beat a KU team at home.

I think you're right. And I do not get either.

As far as the thread, I do think it is a make or break game, not only for the season, but Hawk's career at CU. We shall see though.
 
In my mind, it is a make or break type of game especially for the players. If it is to Hawk, I think we will find out. What I mean by that is, if we fall behind early and Cody is playing like ass, we will see if he shakes things up. That will tell me right there if he really is feeling the pressure.​
 
I don't think even a close loss here will do much as whatever we gain will be erased by a likely thrashing against Texas. KU is the make or break imo.
 
As long as I have watched CU, they have a history of playing well against teams that should kill them. On the other hand, they will go out and lose to CSU, Toledo, Baylor, etc.. Mac's heyday was the exception, we beat the hell outta softies but we didnt play many at the same time.

This 3 game stretch is the make or break. As I have said for a couple of weeks, if we get torched in the next 3 games, Hawk will be gone.

The line is Buffs are 17 point dogs. I look for that to go higher by Friday.

I don't think this team gets within sniffing distance of a 17 point loss. :cry:

Not necessarily this game in particular, but we do need to take no less than 2 of the next 3 (any combination of that is fine by me). This is the crux of the season and if we can get through it with only one loss and roll in to the easier portion of the Big 12 at 3-3 will still be hope with aTm, KjSU, and ISU left. (and of course we will have Mizzou, OSU, and Neb which we will need to win one of those three IMO)
 
Best thread on allbuffs in a long, long time and some really thoughtful ideas representing all points of the spectrum (as oppossed to overly-emotional flailing and flagellation).

Now if we could just convene a similar discussion on health care...

That's about how I feel too. I don't see any one game as a make-or-break game, but more importantly how we end up doing for the season as a whole. One thing that is important in this game though is how well we play and how competitive we are.

The problem is that it's more of a 7W nightlight.
 
winning would be a step to "make" as in resuscitate to maybe a bowl played a week before Christmas. the break has happened. a close L and you can warm up the pads on the hospital shock machine thingy. a blowout and we're gonna scrap for 2 more wins max.
 
it's still non-conference play, so it doesn't "make or break" the season.

It would be great to win as an indication things are getting better, but the conference games are what make or break a season. Sure it would have been nice to be 3-1 in non-conference play to give us a leg up on bowl game eligibility, but 2-2 would still give us a decent chance if we had a .500 conference record.

It might be a make or break game for Hawkins' support at the school, but the season still has a chance (seems to get smaller everyday, but still a chance).

He's hanging his job on Cody's shoulder's because if he does get fired, he can blame it on his son.

Actually, I agree with what was mentioned on another post. If the Buffs win, then some of the pressure comes off of Hawk. Yes, getting to 500 is going to be a huge challange. But the season will be a long one if they get taken to the woodshed.
