I've gone through the laundry list of mistakes and excuses (sorry not excuses Hawkins, they are called "little things" :bawling needs to end with his resignation firing or whatever "little thing" the adminstration needs to come up with. First of all, 2005-06 program situation doesn't matter anymore.

2009-10 is all we can worry about.

Our current recruiting looks like, at best, it will be in the bottom half of the Big XII; and, at worst, will leave us with huge holes at key positions for several years.

I have lost my patience for his coaching mistakes and his Zen football crap concepts. You know what Hawkins the fact that you can't TEACH fundamental football or that you can't TEACH our best players how to practice is YOUR fault.

So...

We need a new coach in 2010. They might still struggle a little since we don't have an established QB, but they should be able to coach up the talent that we have. So what, maybe Hawkins would leave the next coach a better situation than he got left with, I don't have the patience to see him piss away another year with bad game management and preparation.

We need a coach that can recruit Texas and California. We need a fresh aggressive style coach that can present a defense to stop the top offenses in the Big XII. We need a guy that doesn't think he is the next Confucius, but rather let's his players do the talking because he taught them how to play the game.

It wouldn't hurt to have some connections to the Bill McCartney era.

But we need fresh life that would make a bigger splash in recruiting and support but stay true to fundamental football.

In short...

We need Ken Norton, Jr. as our next Head Football Coach.

hire Karl Dorrell as Assistant Coach/Offensive Coordinator.

Retain Brian Cabral or promote him to D.C.

Retain Darian Hagan as RB coach.


I'm done talking about any other options, that crew would get us back to where we need to be and BY FAR have done the most in their recent careers to prove to potential recruits that they will make them better.

Barnett and Hawkins were both previous HC's at other programs, so that should not be the measuring stick.

Look at Norton's recruiting in California and Texas. Is there anyone in the last 4 years that has done better in BOTH states?

He then turns those players into premiere NFL talent and has the new "LB U" going at SC.

Given their respective experience levels, it's more likely that Norton would be a DC under Dorrell than Dorell would work under Norton.

I think he's been mentioned plenty here this season. I guess the name doesn't bring the excitement and speculation that the Shanahan threads have. But Dorrell did get Bieniemy to UCLA. There may be something there.

I'm down with that. The Dorrell-Norton combination would be lights out in my opinion. If he brought Bienemy in as his OC that would be even better.

Would Buffalo-land support having the THREE top coaches in the program being African-American?

I would sure hope so.

Dorrell is a great WR coach (imagine that a HC that CAN coach WR?) and understands the passing game really well. Bienemy obviously is a stud RB and running game coach. Just need an OL and QB coach to round out the offense.

Norton is a lights out co-ordinator in BOTH Texas and California for the Trojans and would be chomping at the bid to step out on his own I imagine. I would love Cabral to stay with the team too.

He was not a good coach at UCLA, and I don't really feel like spending another 5 years in the crapper because we rolled the dice on another coach. I totally agree with retaining Cabral NO MATTER WHAT. He has been the most constant thing in this CU program and has produced more LB talent than any man in the country. Not to mention he is possibly the best recruiter we have especially for the state of Hawaii, which annually produces some of our best talent.

I would also LOVE to see hagan and Bienemy on the staff. It would be awesome to see those 2 together and the recruiting they would be able to do would be amazing.

As far as head coach I would like to see someone that has shown some ability to coach on the big stage. One person suggested Shanahan, but lets be honest he will never coach college football. But I think we should look at people like Tommy Tuberville, Brent Venables (OU DC) or Bobby Hauck (ex-cu assistant).

I know he doesn't have any HC experience, but neither did Mac when he came here. But if you look at his recruiting resume over the last 4 years you can't help but be impressed.

I think it is more important to get a coach that has several years experience in a winning atmosphere at a BCS level school.

Of the actual HC options out there I really like Brian Kelly and Tommy Tuberville, but I just don't see them fitting in really well with our program and recruiting areas.

Hauck is too much of a stretch IMO.

Tubberville would be a great hire. He's won everywhere he's been. 3 national titles as DC for the 'Canes. A great DC for aTm when they went 10-0-1. He has a great record vs. Top 10 teams. He even won as HC at Ole Miss.

Having said all that, he's a southern guy and will look to stay down south in my opinion. I think the University of Louisville will make a run at him after they dump Kragthorpe.

I'm warming up to Karl Dorrell as the next CU coach. Didn't he take UCLA bowling every season he was there? Plus we might need him if the Buffs are to move to the Pac-10 for the 2011 season as many rumors have stated.

Tuberville is a southern guy and won't come to Boulder. That Louisville job is a very attractive one and they are expanding their stadium to go past 60k. That's commitment to football if you asked me.

Shanahan was damn close to becoming the HC at Florida after Spurrier left for the Redskins, so I wouldn´t entirely rule out Shanahan possibly coaching College Football.

Dorrell would be a complete disaster. He is a UCLA alum and could not get the job done...half of his assistant coaches would leave every year - including EB. EB wanted out of Dorrell's staff so bad that he talked to GB about coming back to CU - unfortunately there were no positions open. Dorrell had a real problem running the program - NO to that.

Under Hawkins this program has really tumbled if people are looking at guys like Dorrell. The UCLA fans were saying the same things about Dorrell when before he left that CU fans are saying about Hawkins. If he could not get it done at UCLA why would we want him at CU.

The calls for Chuck Heater are pointless, IMO.

Sure he is a GREAT recruiter, but it's not like Hawk hasn't had decent recruits.

While it would be great to have someone like that at CU, there is no way we can afford to pay him even half of what Florida is paying him to do anything but be a head coach.

We need a true football coach.
